APS School Board race

I suspect Miranda is probably not as extreme as some of the people in APE on divisive issues, but she can't say so because she would alienate her base.

But because the website references their reach therefore MT = anti trans. Posters here okay to leap to transphobic assumptions while simultaneously taking pains to explain why MT’s supportive tweet of a picture of the APS trans student asking a tough question at the townhall somehow means the opposite of what any reasonable person would interpret. The posters here need to step back and let the forums play out. Given MT’s tweet and other comments I’ve seen her post and link to, I have zero doubt she’s a trans-ally. Is that her top issue on campaign? No and I hope not given that APS policy is supportive of trans kids and it would be pure virtue signaling. I’m sure she will be asked a pointed question on this and she will answer and until then you’re all just massively speculating and spreading lies on the internet.

Yikes, my man. Rewriting history here. I was here in 2020-21 too, and APE members definitely waded into the culture wars. Your big tent has trash people. Deal with them.

Really? Which issue? Because I’ve also been in the Facebook group and have been very impressed that they rise above all that nonsense. And they put out a regular newsletter, have all their issues on their website, and disclose who their speakers are at meetings. I’ve NEVER seen them touch a culture war issue. They’re hyper local issues about budget, curriculum, small class sizes, and teacher pay. You probably saw a stray comment on some Facebook post and have run with it being their platform. For the lurkers out there: this thread has gone off the rails, suggest you check out for yourself these assertions and leaps of imagination to see how off base they are. I look forward to you all looking like fools when MT affirms her support for trans students in a forum. I’m sure you’ll all be twisting in knots on how to spin it to mean the opposite of whatever she says.

No one is spreading lies on the internet. People are raising truths, such as Miranda's association through APE with the leader of the anti trans group, and voters are raising questions about Miranda's stance on trans based on a very vaguely worded tweet. Miranda has every opportunity to specifically support trans kids rights if she wants to. She has a website with her positions but that isn't on it. She has a twitter feed but did not state her position.

The question is.... why not? It's starting to look more and more like she doesn't want to. Again, she can change that. But she has not.

Has anyone looked to see if that person is in AEM or any other arlington group. Because that would be hilarious.

Being in a Facebook group with another human doesn’t have transitive properties. There is no barrier to entry to most Facebook groups. It’s not some test.

sure, but APE is not just a Facebook group. They have a website, they put out position statements and press releases, they poll their members (from the FB group) on positions to take, they take donations, they incorporated as a 501c4. This is all true.

This group was started by a School Board candidate. It's really all she's done and is known for. So it's highly relevant and people are going to be talking about it.

I agree, and that's a problem for me. I don't want a school board member beholden to that kind of a base.

+1

Reminds me a lot of Youngkin actually. I don't think he's super extreme, just an opportunist. But he's playing to a right wing base for votes. I see the same danger with Miranda given who is in her APE base.

....and i'm not feeling any better after this thread watching her camp defend her non stance on trans rights and calling a clear stance on trans virtue signaling and not an important issue.

And can you stop trying to recruit people into your FB group that you also don't want associated with Miranda. Because inconvenient?

Is she personally anti-trans? Probably not. But she's sure comfortable with some of those people. That's what concerns me.

Also APE boasts about its 1200 + membership based on its FB group and then in the next breath wants to disavow those who are in it?

You can't have it both ways, APE!

I think he's extreme on women's rights. Maybe not The Big Lie, but was very willing to push that to get votes.

Curious to see how MT handles her base. She may not need their vote for the caucus now that Erin has dropped out.

I agree. Miranda should weigh on this. Right now. Disavow herself of Youngkin's Transgender Model Policies and say on the record that trans boys are boys and trans girls are girls, and they absolutely should use the same bathrooms as their gender and play sports with people of their same gender. It's not that hard.

Honestly, Miranda's supporters here are making it worse for her by insulting and calling out "mental health" every time someone poses a thought different from theirs.

It's just like what they did in the last campaign. Last time they labeled everyone who didn't agree 100 with them as a closed schooler.

And she is going to have to be crystal clear about her stances on hot button issues with public schooling. Will she push back on Youngkin and his divisiveness that on the whole Arlingtonians do not support? That's what I need to know.

APE made Miranda. Now she has to lie in it.

So you’d rather have extremely important decisions about your kid’s education made by a 22 year old who knows absolutely nothing about multi-million dollar budgets, long-term planning, education, APS or Arlington and has no experience as even a parent in any school system??? I doubt at his age he’s made a more complicated decision than what college should he attend or should he in Roslyn or Shirlington. I don’t think his youth or his experience on SNAP, which appear to be his two big talking points, qualifies him for being a PTA president let alone SB. You need therapy if you’re that anti-MT.

Maybe he at least knows how to spell Rosslyn! Are you sure you're even from Arlington, PP?

If that’s the best you can respond to me, then yes, you definitely need therapy.

For what? All she needs to do is secure the caucus via votes.
