What MAP scores are typical for entry into compacted math?

I am debating requesting that my dd be reconsidered for compacted math (she was recommended for on-grade-level). I understand that the decision likely rests on a number of different criteria (and I understand what is involved, having had two other kids go through compacted math), but I wanted to see if she is in the right 'range' in terms of MAP scores before deciding what to do. Her end-of-third-grade MAP score was 216. Is that roughly comparable to others invited into compacted math, or is it low?

With that score I would request it- but I would also ask why she wasn't originally considered and listen to their reasoning. It is not all about the score, but 81% is generally in the group that is now in the class.

My kid was invited with a 228, which was a big jump from Winter, which was a 214.

So...I'm not sure which of those scores they considered indicative of his potential.

It's worth considering though whether it's right for your child or whether you're willing to jump off that track. It leads to 7th grade Algebra and 11th grade calculus. Your child will still have to take math in 12th grade -- second year calculus or stats. That's a hard path. But you can decide to repeat a year in middle school. Not a bad thing to take Algebra I twice -- it's important and that keeps things moving in the slower years of 4th and 5th.

Not OP but how much do they consider InView scores? My kid was in the 70s% on Inview for Quant but has always been in mid-high 90s% MAP-wise.

Spring MAP is 231, he is going to be in compacted math.

I'm the PP (231). I would ask them to reconsider if your child has been getting As and enrichment consistently! I just looked and winter MAP was 217 which isn't that far off from your child!

My 7th grader just finished Algebra 1 and got a low C so he is retaking it next year. I am happy about this since I don't want him to be shaky in a foundational class.

when will compact math placement coming out? we haven't heard anything yet.

Did she receive math enrichment this year and did she get a GT designation last year? Look at the grade report - there is a line under the math box specifying whether your child was taught on grade level with enrichment/acceleration, or not.

My second grader has 236 on MAP-P (I know scores generally dip a little when students switch to MAP-M in 3rd grade), and has been officially taught math "with enrichment" since 1st grade. I would assume schools look at things like that when deciding on placement.

Then again, don't stress about it too much. My oldest child was not selected for compacted math, didn't have a GT designation in elementary, and when he got to middle school, was switched to advanced math classes on the request of his teacher, who couldn't understand why he hadn't been in CM before! He's done very well in Algebra I in 7th grade this year.

Our school made recommendations before they even did Spring MAPs. My son got in but I spoke to his teacher about it and I got the impression their current year math teachers are primarily making this decision on how they do every day in math class - how quick they get concepts and their motivation to not give up when faced with a tricky problem. I would think inview wouldnt have any effect and the main criteria is the math teacher’s observations based on grades etc.

My son doesn’t have a GT designation but he’s been receiving math enrichment since 1st grade, always been in highest math group, never gotten anything but As in math and he’s in compacted math. So I don’t think the GT designation is any type of dealbreaker - it’s how they actually do in math class in school.

The 230s being reported are very high scores and well above what is needed to get into compacted math.
