At this time, this would not affect ECNL very much. This partnership formalizes an agreement for both leagues to work together and initially adds a few top GA teams to attend an MLSnext National level showcase and they mentioned sharing coaching and development information.

It could affect ECNL in the future if GA moves into the realm of being a springboard league for players to go pro. If that develops, then GA may attract more players away from ECNL who want to pursue that option.

Will it attract so much attention and talent that is rises to top league status in a similar way that MLSnext is over the ECNL Boys league? Possibly not, unless the NWSL helps with league development in a significant way to boost and further legitimize the league.

Yes, I know this off topic for this thread, with enough interest, we should start a new thread to continue the conjecture.

All NWSL has to do is implement a homegrown rule via GA and all the top players will flow to GA. Just like they do now with MLSN.

It's amazing to think that girls ecnl is one rule away from being 2nd tier. (Just like boys ecnl)
That would be the cart before the horse. NWSL has no draft and doesn't have free academies for rising girls to sign away their rights. And finally, why would NWSL pick GA over any other league to anoint as their pipeline?

You mean kind of like MLSN who they just announced a partnership with?

NWSL players won not having a draft, no reason for them to allow it back. And having a rich uncle, who has their own kids to shower with gifts, send you a Dollar Tree birthday card doesn't make you rich. Where would the money come from?

With receipts!

Seems clear that the NWSL Players Association is expecting a homegrown rule to be implemented.

Unless the NWSL is free like MLS academies I don’t see how they will make a dent in what ECNL is doing. Some NWSL clubs already have academies but I don’t think any of them are highly ranked.

The facts are most girls want to goto college before playing pro. Until the women’s game can start getting larger checks for their bench players that will always be the case.

You say the same things on every forum. It gets old.

The source said that the expansion fee is in the range of $105 to $120 million, which was also reported by Sportico

MLS just charged San Diego $500m. MLS has more dollars and MLS Next side DCU doesn't even bother to have a U13 side. Rolling in cash doesn't make you want to share or spend.

1st time I’ve posted. So obviously other people agree with me if you’re seeing this elsewhere. I’m not anti NWSL but people thinking they will somehow overthrow ECNL don’t understand how much of the talent market they control.

Yea that's why all the top clubs switched over to DA.

Are you trying to explain why Acadamies on the girls side will vacuum up talent?

DA was free? So yes anyone who’s can get away from pay to play can have an advantage in getting talent. Also DA failed miserably because they had no money.

Businesses don't run charities. How would NWSL academies come remotely close to breaking even while offering free soccer to about 1,500 kids?

Do MLS clubs even turn a profit? No way nwsl clubs do. My daughter knows her future career won't be in NWSL, she wants to go to a good college and play soccer on her way to a real job/career. It is what 95% of girls and their families want. This announcement changes nothing.

Have any of you ever actually attended an nwsl game? It's clear their target audience is LGBT, not kids or families. So much pride shoved down your throat. Team stores are loaded with pride themed gear, but players kits can't be purchased. The NWSL will never generate profit until they broaden their audience beyond the LGBT mafia. As-is, they can't find an academy pipeline and why would they? ECNL does it for them at no cost.
