How many states have you been to?

I DON'T count states where you've had a layover but didn't leave the airport but I do count states where you've driven through.

3 of my remaining states I have a good chance of visiting in the next few years. The 4th is South Dakota and that would take some effort. |

Oh, and our rule is that you have to get out and do something in the state for it to count  but everyone can have their own rules!

All 50. My previous job was working with rural communities for the federal government so that took me to a lot of remote places. My parents also thought they should expose us to the US so we did a lot of neat trips as a kid instead of going to the same beach every year.
With my kids, we love visiting National Parks and I hope to someday visit every single one. |

The ones I have not been to: Hawaii Alaska Montana Idaho North Dakota Iowa Kansas Colorado Nebraska Michigan Mississippi Louisiana The only ones that are "drive through" are Minnesota and Wisconsin, though we did stop for gas in Minnesota, and overnight in a hotel in Wisconsin. All the others we actually did something--like visit a historic site or a museum or national park or something. |

I think it depends. I only drove through South Dakota but we did see Mt Rushmore and the Badlands so I feel like it counts. But just drive thru only stopping for gas and restroom? Probably not. I have been to most states except North Dakota, Mississippi, Kansas, Oklahoma. And no offense to those states but I don’t know that I have any reasons to go them them! |
