If your kid(s) walk to/from school, how far do they walk?

My 14 year old son walks 30 minutes (1.5 miles) home from school. I am wondering how far other kids walk and if they walk both ways or just home? I worry about him walking in the morning because i don't want him to be late so I drive him and he walks the last 10 minutes.

We live in a neighborhood where all 3 school levels are less than a mile, if that.

My 6th grader walks about a quarter mile to her elementary school.

In ES my kids walk a little over a mile. For HS mine walk or ride their bikes 2.5 miles. MS is too far for these to be options.

My 3rd grader walks .8 miles to school. That's the only school we are close enough to walk to (others are over 2 miles away and lack sidewalks for large portions of the journey).

My DS doesn't walk by himself yet. We walk occasionally to school - it's about a mile. We're in a bus zone because there are a couple big streets to cross.

3yo and 8 yr old walk 1/2 mile with parent on the way to school. Usually driven home because the parent who typically picks up is doing so on the drive home from work.

We are .8 miles from our kids ES.

When the weather is nice we primarily walk - takes us between 12-20 minutes depending on how many things & people distract us.

Our 5th grader is allowed to walk and back forth by himself and was allowed to starting in 4th grade.

Our elementary school is .25 miles away, and the middle school and high school are .6 and .7, respectively. We bought in the neighborhood with this in mind.

ES is .1 miles away and we walk. Still takes 5-7 minutes. Middle school and HS are .75 miles away.

Elementary was about 1.2 miles with 2 main streets to crossed. DD was bused there. Middle was around a mile but we were told a bus was provided due to the main street issues. But she hated the bus and walked most days by the time she was in 7th grade.

Elementary school is 0.8 miles away. We walk weather permitting. I would allow my kids to walk alone EXCEPT they have to cross an insanely busy street where pedestrians have been hit several times (one fatally) so I don’t trust the drivers to stop and it’s just a crosswalk, not a stop light. Hence I feel for their safety I have to walk with them. I’ve been fighting with the city of Alexandria for 5 years to add a light or stop signs, something, but the city refuses. And I don’t want them to NOT walk so I walk with them.
