Michael Curry got caught up in himself

The message was fine, but it could have been shorter.
I got the feeling that he took the opportunity to deviate enough from the tone of the event, so that we remember him.
That is sad, the wedding was not about him.

Nah. That’s how he preaches (he’s very much in the black preacher tradition) and they knew that when they invited him.

Let it go. He was great.

He was excessive and over he top, but I don't think you needed to create a thread over this.

Welp, that the American Episicopal Church for you. Very political for the last 10 years or so. Very annoying.

If they wanted a super dignified stoic English priest, they could have invited one.

They didn't want that. But MC could have been shorter.

Assuming all complainers have never been to a black church

Harry is the perfect failson, and here he is getting his first of a million reminders that she's hot but way more churchy than he is.

The quoting MLK? Great. The passion? Great. It could have been 1/4 the length though. Dragged on way, way too much.

UK Labour politician David Lammy wrote, "Love, Justice, Poverty, MLK, Fire and Slavery in one sermon from Bishop Curry. Amen brothers and sisters, Amen."

King's daughter Bernice expressed her delight at the use of the activist's words in a tweet. "#MLK quote at the #RoyalWedding," she wrote. "Your life, teachings and words still matter so much, Daddy. Congrats, Harry and Meghan!

Rev. Curry rose to fame in 2012 when his sermon "We need some crazy Christians," went viral and was turned into a book.

I loved the delivery and the message, but agree that at a wedding the sermon is typically fairly brief. A+ for content and style. A++ for getting the reactions from stodgy British guests. C- for length.

Agree with you. He made it about him.
