Michael Curry got caught up in himself

“Undignified” and “train wreck” posters check your racism.

Yep. This was about British royalty embracing Markle and all that she represents. If there had not been a Michael Curry sermon or a gospel choir, it would have been a statement that she was to expected to fold herself and her traditions into the white Royal culture. A sermon in the black church tradition, with all the fervor and oratorical repetition that is part of that tradition, was a deliberate choice and a deliberate message about inclusivity. Those who are saying it was "inappropriate" are missing the point entirely.

+1. It was fabulous and focused on the real power of love.

That's on your racism, not the posters', if that's how you read it.

If you were tuning in for a storybook royal wedding, and couldn't care less about the race or nationality of the bride, then you were disappointed. If you tuned in in part because of either the race or the nationality of the bride, then you more likely thought the mixing in of US culture (black or otherwise) interesting and appropriate.

OP here. I have no problem with the cultural differences. I liked the idea. But this man seemed to be there to get attention. I think that he could have put a lot more thought into it. Not all AME preachers are the same.

They didn't want that. But MC could have been shorter.

Every aspect of an event like this is timed. He wasn't improvising. The length was exactly what everyone involved already knew it would be and if anyone had wanted it shorter he'd have shortened it.

It was a religious message in a religious service, not a toast at a party where everyone's eager to get to the drinks. He delivered the message he felt called to give as a priest. The entire service was under an hour. He delivered an actual sermon, not some quick generic blessing. I know this service was just a fashion show to a lot of viewers but I'm glad it included an actual (and engaging) religious message.

PREACH!!!

And this is how he preaches. I’ve seen him live and watched a Couple of his sermons on YouTube. it is never about bishop Curry, always about Jesus. He gets excited, yes. Bishop Curry is on fire for Jesus and he wants the whole world to know the message of a loving God.

Every single Episcopalian who‘s ever heard him preach knew what was going to happen today, surely the Royal family did too. So what if it wasn’t frozen and expressionless. The Brits could use a little pep in their step. All you need to know is after it was over, Harry looked at Meghan and said, “wow”

It was too long because he kept repeating himself. Over and over, love love love, fire fire fire.
It wasn't poetic.

Agree. It wasn't a 12 minute speech that told a story or led to a point or message - it was just total redundancy for 12 minutes, and needlessly verbose.

You are unfamiliar with preaching, it is not story telling . SMH!
He was preaching the Word.

To all those criticizing this guy: This was what the couple wanted. If they had wanted something else (more "dignified" or shorter) they would have gotten someone else.

It's really that simple.

Read the sermon (I did before I got a chance to see it) - it's beautifully written and not rambling.

the joint interview with the Archbishop of Canterbury and Bishop Curry shoe them as totally aligned on the homily.

I get all that they said, but it was too long. Maybe 20% shorter and I wouldn't have noticed.
