Can't Afford to Drive My Car. What Should I do?

Anonymous
Hi I have a 2014 Dodge Challenger RT that I bought last year because my previous car just stopped working all together so it was needed. I live with my parents so I was able to afford it at the time. Lately, I've been having trouble affording my car loan payment each month; I get paid bi weekly and my mom decided out of the blue to charge me 400 dollars a month to live with her . My car payment is about $500 per month. My credit isn't great right now so I'm not sure refinancing is an option. I get paid about $400 per week after taxes and deductions. I would just like to get something different because I drive a lot for work and gas is very hard for me to afford, but I'm not sure what to do right now because of the loan I have and I'm not even close to paying it off.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Trade it in.

Sell it or get a second job.

So you make about $1600 (really $1733) a month. You spend $500 on car, $400 on rent. Where does the other $700 go? You need to get a better job ultimately.

Your car payment is outrageous and the car wasn't a good investment even if you needed it. You should have gotten a gas friendly, reliable car.

Why the hell would you buy a gas-guzzling behemoth of a truck with six a large car payment but can't afford to live on your own?

It's a 2 door muscle car with a awesome sounding v8! I got it because I've always wanted one.

Can’t you roll the remainder beyond the trade-in into a new loan? You need a CHEAP used fuel-efficient sedan. Get your payment down to half its current amount.

Where does the rest of your money go if you can’t afford gas and your car payment?

Yes, but you cannot afford it. No reason your mom should not charge $400 when your priority is your car. Get a second job.

How much is your insurance?

You sound like you are a little pissed with your mom for charging you rent.

She did this because she doesn't want to support you any longer. She is trying to teach you responsibility. Trade in the car and get something fuel efficient/reliable and grow the f* up.

How much is the insurance on that car? Probably $200 a month.
Trade in the car. Buy a cheap used Japanese car and get a 2nd job. Working 2 jobs for the next 10 years will hopefully keep you from buying cars that depreciate faster than you can pay them down.
You are super young or a troll, not both.

How old are you ? This is childish priority. Get a second job, get the loan down and sell it. You can always buy another one later when you leave your parents house.

You have credit card debt and you live with your parents? I mean this kindly, but get your finances in order ASAP. There is no reason for you to be in any of these predicaments. Dave Ramsey is a initial resource; his podcasts are recommended here frequently.
