I am an AP Psychology teacher and my students are doing an independent research project and presentation about a psychology topic they are interested in.

In Arlington they finish their projects or leave for senior experience... Gets them away from the juniors.

For the juniors, the teachers give assignments that pad their grade.

The long stretch of time from the APs to school letting out is why if asked, I would vote for shifting the school year earlier.

I am the psychology teacher from 21:04. My students took their exam on Monday. School does not let out until June 21st! My seniors are totally done for the most part, especially since many of them are taking 3-4 exams. My goal is to have them be done with all of the presentations by June 1st, so after that they can just enjoy the prom, beach week, and graduation festivities, while doing a few very minor and fun assignments.

In MCPS there are the two weeks of AP testing followed by the last week for seniors. All my AP students are working on independent projects due on the last day for seniors. There are so many students missing each day for different APs that you can't do anything as a whole class. The students who are in class can use their time productively as they see fit (my project, studying for another AP, or make-up work for another class). After the seniors leave, the juniors work on a different project, usually together, applying the content they learned in a different way. Engaging, meaningful, and fun, but no new content.

Well, it is May 10 and there is no evidence my kid is going to do anything more this year. Too much wasted time now, and too much intensity during the other three marking periods.

I think your plan sounds perfect.
