Moco Council at large seats--how to decide who to vote for?

Anonymous
There are so many of them and they seem to be practically all the same! Curious to know what's going into your decision making process. Not necessarily interested in who you are voting for.

It’s impossible. I’m involved in local politics and I can’t diligently research and understand each candidate. There are 35+.

The ones I am considering have been involved in politics or local government in some capacity. They have a record I can look to, to see if they truly understand the issues. Most democrats are very similar here in MoCo. So choosing the competent ones seems more important to me. Who will get things done? Who cares about good government?

I'm PP. I'm voting for:
Gabe Albornoz
Marilyn Balcombe

And I'm trying to decide among:

Jill Ortman Fouse
Evan Glass
Ashwani Jain
Will Jawando

Definitely not:
Hans Riemer
Danielle Meitiv
Tom Falcinelli

All the others, I'm neutral on.

I’m so pissed off at the Council, I’m definitely not voting for anyone currently on it right now. Not anyone who self identifies as “progressive” or left of anyone currently on the council either. We need to impose some fiscal and economic sanity back into our local government. I hate Trump with all my fiber but the main priorities of local county government should NOT be pointless virtue signaling gestures that waste time and resources when all of the recent economic news and tax-base trends in our county are deeply concerning. They need to get back to basics and do their effing job.

do not vote for anyone who is on the council and also none of those who are term limited out and are running for county executive. this place in in shambles and they are directly to blame.

So as a left-leaning moderate, who should I be voting for in the at large race?

Will Jawando filed a civil right complaint against the county regarding the MCPS language immersion program, basically arguing that they weren't doing enough outreach to minority communities. But the kicker to me is that he claims he had no awareness about the immersion program until someone happened to mention it to him. Really, you're that ignorant about something that any half involved parent should know about or could have discovered with a minimum of research about the public school system, and yet you want to be on County Council? I know nothing else about Will Jawando, but this right here is reason enough for me not to vote for him.

Came here to ask the same. Moderate Democrats/ left leaning moderates.

If you want moderate, don’t pick from Silver Spring/Takoma Park areas. Look up county.

I’m also involved in local politics.

I’m voting for:

Jill Ortman-Fouse
Gabe Albornoz

Then I’m choosing between:

Bill Conway
Marilyn Balcombe
Evan Glass
Hams Riemer

I like Ashwani Jain but he’s not as knowledgeable about the county budget as those I’ve listed.

Will Jawando

+1 Not only that, but when his child was accepted into a partial immersion program at a high FARMS school (lots of lower income families) instead of being accepted into a full immersion program (BCC cluster), they decided their child "wasn't a good fit" for the partial immersion school and opted to go private. Then the civil rights complaint. He's not getting my vote either.

It's gotta be someone upcounty. It's insane that the at-large seats are so heavily skewed toward the southern part of the county. Upcounty issues matter, too. I mean, I have very little hope that this current Council will restore the Germantown and Hyattstown fire trucks that have been cut. They just don't care.

Stuff like that. I know it doesn't make down-county people's radar. But it does matter.

The Silver Spring/Takoma Park Council members have aggressively channeled county funds towards their areas alone- it’s time for them to go.
