What is with all the black headliners in cars these days?

Anonymous
Spent weekend looking at cars with a friend and did not realized that the car market went crazy.
We have visited quite few different makers and models and it is like some sort of disease, 90% cars
have a black headliner (that soft fabric that lines the ceiling).

It looks creepy, especially on cars with the black seats and black dashboard, it is all black,
like dungeon. Once you close the car doors it is like a grave. Just put some daisies on the top.
What is with that thing? When did it happened to be a trend? Who is asking for it,
who orders it, who buys it?

With some few exceptions even on cars with light seats, that darn thing is black,
and it is just horrible. It looks like it doe snot belong. I can understand that some people
might want to pretend their car is a limousine but it is not and that thing is not cutting the mustard.

In LA this is not a thing and people usually buy cars with light interiors and light liners
of course with exception of few brands that push it and do not give you a choice, but
this is nowhere near what is happening in this area.

Who makes those purchasing decisions for dealerships? Who is buying it?

Do you own a car with black liner? Did you have a choice at the time of purchase?
Did you buy because you had to have it or did you buy because you liked the seats
and had no choice but to go with the black headliner?

Ugh..

I have a car with light grey fabric seats. Never again. Black only as they get filthy.

Illustrating at random:

It is bit less creepy feeling if the car and dash have some lighter tones or accents but when it is all pitch black
that is like Halloween all year round.

It is not that I don't respect people's choices but it seems like there is nothing left for those who
would like to have nice light car anymore. It is like that decision had been made for everybody.

Seats is another story, that is totally understandable, black seats are totally justifiable, but who in heaven
is touching a headliner like ever? That thing never gets dirty in the first place. IT IS AAAAAAAAAAABOVE the heads!

You must not have kids. My headliner in my suv is grey. They have managed to shoot
Chocolate milk on it and god only knows what. I wish it was black.

I have quadruple black. It was on the lot the day I went to buy my car. It has a panoramic sunroof and it’s a beautiful car.

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't even notice something like that.

I have no idea. I will look tomorrow and report back. This is like 1,254,237 on the list of concerning things in my life.

+1
And, even so, it wouldn't bother me enough to be a deal breaker (or to vent about it on dcum)

I never even noticed that and didn’t know what it was called. I was so confused by the title of the post.

Sounds nice to me. It matches all of my attire.

Mine is light grey and it gets filthy. I honestly just scrubbed it over the weekend. Go with the black.

I have weird stains all over my headliner and I have no idea why. Probably catastrophically sloshed beverages.
