Matty is a rock star that sells arenas and has fans fainting from hyperventilation at his concerts. He writes beautiful, sophisticated lyrics and music. And Joe is just gorgeous. Both are way smarter, deeper, worldlier and more interesting than Travis, imo, but both were ultimately meh on Taylor because she probably is a handful and not all that without her PR. |
DP. I applaud Taylor Swift for not commenting on Gaza at all. It is an extremely controversial and loaded topic. Why should she opine on it at all? She's entitled to have her own opinion about it (and everything else) without having to share with the world. |
Same PP ^^ - I meant to say why should Travis Kelce opine on Gaza at all, but the same goes for Taylor Swift. |
+ a million I never, ever post about or respond to posts on my social media having to do with politics - of any kind. Ever. |
| I have to laugh at the poster who claims Joe and Matty are "worldly and sophisticated" - because they have British accents. Too funny! Some British people I know are the *least* worldly and sophisticated people I've ever met. Kind of shows clearly just how simpleminded that poster is. |
DP. Exactly! I have to leave the room when my husband listens to football, especially the pre-game shows. They are usually so inane I can't stand it. But my husband - a highly educated and intelligent man - loves football and the pre-game shows is all a part of it. I hate football, so I'm just not into it in any way. However, I can certainly appreciate the talent of these athletes and don't think they're "dumb" (most of them, anyway!). Travis Kelce seems like a good guy in many ways and the more I see of him, the more I like him. |
Troll much?

+1 It’s hysterical. |
It’s not because they have accents but because I have heard them speak in interviews and can compare how they express themselves to Ttavis. Also, an athlete’s education is not much of an education. |
Dunno. Is it trolling if I believe it? |
You can’t be serious with this. The 1975 is a moderately successful indie band. Matt Healy is not a rockstar - that is insane. Let me guess. After posting this, you toggle over to the JLO thread and talk about how Ben Affleck is a genius right? Insanity. Oh, to be a mediocre white man in this world. |
From Wiki. This is way more impressive than “a moderately successful indie band”: “Rolling Stone stated that the band has been at "the forefront of modern pop rock" since their debut, with Billboard declaring them "the most ambitious pop-rock band of their generation.” All of the band's albums hit No. 1 in the United Kingdom and charted in the Billboard 200, garnering critical praise and appearing in numerous publications' year-end and decade-end lists. Their second album, I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It (2016), also reached No. 1 in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The band's third album, A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships(2018), received widespread acclaim and won British Album of the Year at the 2019 Brit Awardswith its single “Give Yourself A Try” earning a nomination for Best Rock Song at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards. It was followed by Notes on a Conditional Form (2020) and Being Funny in a Foreign Language (2022), with the latter receiving a nomination for British Album of the Year at the 2023 Brit Awards. |
DP. I completely agree with most of what you wrote but there’s no need to bring race into it. Really. |
The frontman/lead vocalist of a rock or pop-rock band is generally considered and referred to as a rock star. The 1975 are very well known and neither mediocre nor indie any more. |
Nobody that I know knew who they were before it came out that Taylor was dating Matty. I know they're more popular in Europe, but they're not very well known in the US. |
