Maybe it's your age. The college kids know this band... |
PS: I'm not a 1975 fan, by the way. I just don't see the point of sh-tting on someone TS dated. Yes, he probably became better known because of her. And, yes, he looked frightened and shy when he walked with her "behind" her stage in his skeleton costume. |
| Who cares about Matty Healy in any way in a thread about Taylor and Travis. Why is his name all over this thread when there’s another thread dedicated to that relationship?? Go over there. |
None of what you’re negates the fact that they are not that popular or well-known. You realize you led with a writer no one has heard from Rolling Stone, a magazine that no one under 50 reads or has probably has even heard of, think they are a good band lol. That does not mean they are going to have a big legacy. They objectively have not sold that many albums or had that many hits or won that many Grammys compared to about 100 other bands I could list. Not to mention if you compare them to Taylor Swift, which is who the thread is about, they are literally meaningless. They are a moderately successful indie band and their association with Taylor Swift is probably responsible for 50% of their moderate success. |
Some of them surely do. Too bad they aren’t buying their music or going to their shows in numbers that would make them more successful. |
The money= success idea that TS fans love. Go make a bracelet for greed and over consumption as that is the root of what you are worshipping. |
I get your point and I agree. I’m just not sure how else to measure about success objectively. It’s not all about money of course, it’s about talent and 1 million other things, but if you’re trying to objectively make comparisons of them compared to their peers, you really have to see how many people are going to their concerts, how many people are buying them music? They are clearly successful… But I wasn’t the one who started comparing them to Taylor Swift, or trying to say that she couldn’t hold her own to a rockstar who has fans hyperventilating and fainting. |
I just use myself as a barometer if I like a band or not. I am at the whim of music stations and what they pick up. I enjoy the 1975s to a point but some of their lyrics give me a gross feeling. Like the one about men and soy milk- ew. A lot of monetary success in music comes down to marketing not talent. Taylor is good at that, matty doesn’t seem to care as much about his image. |
| DP. I do get the feeling that Taylor is always trying to prove something. I don't like The 1975, but feel like they'd be together making music even with no commercial success. |
Maybe the band should make 1,975 versions of one album like TS. Then Matty could be a billionaire too. |
Sure. Why not. No one is forced to buy one. |
It's hard to be a billionaire when your money goes up your nose or in a vein. |
Meh. He’s not good at controlling his image but he close this life - of course he’s interested in money and success. They are all. |
Matty looks like he eats cigarettes. He’s not on track to be a billionaire LOL. |
Definitely marketing money can get you on the radio and get you promoted… But it absolutely astound me that at this point in Taylor‘s career people are still doubting her talent. I just like Taylor‘s music. And I’m not on her marketing radar or her main demographic. It’s wild to me that there are some posters who think she is that good at gaslighting people who like her music and that some people seem to be immune. Or that marketing can make her so prolific that she has so many hits and is able to make millions of people highly motivated to spend a lot of money and a lot of energy trying to get to our concerts. Wild! |
