We love Mexico and go almost every year. I now have 3 kids and hesitant. Rosewood mayakoba was probably our favorite family vacation ever albeit it was before we had the third child. Was considering grand Velas or occidental all inclusive right next to xcaret.
Would you just skip Mexico this year? DH suggested a Disney Cruise. |
| We are booked for August. As of now, we are keeping our plans. Glad to hear it's on your list of favorites!!! |

We were just in Mexico for spring break at rosewood mayakoba.
Based on the many American families I saw there, including at least a half a dozen from the DMV area that I met over the course of a week, no everyone is not avoiding Mexico. We felt safe the whole time. Went off resort a few times for various excursions. Did all the typical precautions and everything was fine. |
| Not going to Mexico. Sorry. |
|
OP, there have been so many threads about Mexico you should search.
The basic breakdown is: Many people: Why would anyone ever go to Mexico, it's horribly unsafe and there are many other places just as nice. Oh, and my spouse works for the FBI/law enforcement/State and he and all his friends and everyone he knows thinks Mexico should be avoided at all costs. Many other people: It's not any less safe than many American and European cities. I went and it was fine. |
Glad you had a nice trip. Can you elaborate on what are typical precautions. Thx. I'm the poster going in August! |
LOL. You've just saved us many pages of threads. I fall into the latter category. Mexico is a great country to visit. |
| Yes, not too crazy about one way trips. |
| I just got back from Mexico. Had a great time! |
| I wouldn’t go with my kids. |
| I think its important to remember that just because everyone you know (or yourself) went and "it was fine/great/awesome" doesn't reduce your individual risk. Yes, it will probably be fine. But when there are legit warnings against an area I just go to another area. It seems obvious to me but thats just me. |
| It's perfectly okay until it's not. |
| Well, we live in Mexico, so we're not avoiding it, but there are parts of Mexico we won't visit--Ciudad Juarez, parts of Michoacan, Acapulco, etc... The warnings about the Cozumel ferry were scary, but wouldn't have kept us from going through with travel plans to Quintana Roo. We just wouldn't have gone to Cozumel right around that time. |
Just like there are neighborhoods in major US cities we wouldn't visit and parts of the country we wouldn't choose for vacation. |
That's super deep. |
