Just noting that if the Voices of Fairfax was the fringe in Great Falls and they were strongly against boundary changes, then the majority must not be against potential changes. So if the new school were to be built out in Western Fairfax, Great Falls would be OK with going to Herndon? Not arguing it should be done at this time. |
Not sure why I am not getting thru here. What I am saying is that the Voices of Fairfax group is a fringe group. Most people in Great Falls dont want boundary changes and DO NOT support fringe conservative groups like Voices of Fairfax. If you buy into Mobasheri's arguments, then VoF arent even interested in boundary changes, only interested in getting republicans elected. |
Just wanted to confirm that Democrats and Republicans in Great Falls are against boundary changes. And I believe Ms. Tholen promised to keep you at Langley. Don't really care about Mobsheri's arguments. I just know nothing in FCPS is really going to change. |
DP. I concluded exactly what the PP did from your post. You say Voices of Fairfax “barely has a following,” and then you contradict the PP? Please explain exactly what you mean, because it’s not at all clear. |
I’ll tell you why you’re not getting through - because you keep contradicting yourself. And btw, I live in Great Falls too. The point of VoF was to keep the boundaries as they are - “change the school board, not the boundaries”. That’s what they were advocating for. You’re claiming that they are a “fringe group,” yet most people in GF agree the boundaries shouldn’t change. So which is it? If they express the view of the majority of GF residents, then they are not a “fringe group”.

| VOF was a fringe group because the rhetoric it used to oppose boundary changes was extreme and the support its endorsed candidates received was limited. Dranesville has 30 precincts and only three in the western most part of Great Falls that feed into Langley voted for Karloutsos. All the other precincts in Dranesville went for Tholen, including every precinct that feeds into Herndon, McLean, Marshall or Westfield. It doesn’t mean those precincts necessarily want boundary changes, but voters in those areas felt less vulnerable to redistricting and rejected VOF’s over-the-top language. |
You mean Seneca, Forestville, and Hickory precincts? Sugarland has Dranesville Herndon addresses that vote at Herndon HS and some residences are assigned to Forestville/Langley. Also look at Precincts in Hunter Mill 233 North Point and 240 Colvin. Great Falls and Hickory voters can still have FCPS issues with elementary school boundaries stemming from the Colvin Run boundaries and program placement. A very long time ago a principal put in JIP at Great Falls and then went to Aldrin when that school opened. That makes two schools that didn't want JIP when they opened - Aldrin and Colvin Run. Each in better locations for program transfers. The fact that 2 new schools opened and principals said NO on moving that operational program to their new school succinctly presents the negative impact on the school as a whole. What experienced principal given the honor of opening a new school turns down program money? Any other examples? |
If they get rid of MS-13 by enforcing LAW, then we don’t give a crap WHAT school we go to. I know folks with their kids in Herndon now and if they aren’t in the honor track, it’s bad! That is also why the school board wants to get rid of a lot of the honors programs. |
Curious. What is JIP? |
DP, but “Japanese Immersion Program.” |
Thanks. |
Yes, those 3 precincts in western Great Falls were the only precincts in Dranesville where Karloutsos received a majority or plurality of votes. It is the fringe geographically and the fringe politically. Vulnerable to redistricting (in another decade) and vulnerable to politicians who will exploit their fears. Depending on the tone set by the new Board, they can either be brought back into the mainstream or further marginalized. |

| Good to see the Langley Republicans are now so irrelevant in the county. |
And yet? You need our tax dollars. What happens if you no longer have access to them? |
