GA & MLS NEXT Form Strategic Alliance

Anonymous
I bet what happened was,

A lot of clubs were applying to join MLSN. Only issue was the clubs that applied were worried about where to put the girls.

MLS formed an Alliance with GA, and then told the clubs that applied…

“I got that figured out for you”

This may true for a handful of clubs but clubs will look at the health of their rec programs. If it favors girls ECNL, if it favors boys MLSN/GA.

Given Surf's record and clout, they could easily say we are putting our boys in MLSNext and keeping our girls in ECNL. And there is not a damn thing ECNL would do about it.

SD Surfs boys teams are good but they don't compare with MLS Acadamies in the area.

No club has clout on this issue. ECNL would just drop them.

From my mildly informed perspective GA/MLSN has a slight advantage in this new landscape especially if they are already paied together, but if you are a brand name ECNL club like Surf you are in great shape and no need to worry or switch leagues. Their ECNL boys will be seen now, and the girls have no reason to leave with SD Wave leasing their practice facility from Surf.

In NoVa no ecnl clubs are at the SD surf level, so MLSN/GA combo around here would stand to benefit Armour and SYC. Time will tell

Sorry -- what new landscape? There is one dreamed up in this thread but it does not yet exist. Even if it were -- it is 3-5 years off. This alliance is a get to know you agreement. Maybe what you want to happen will happen but only after MLSNext is comfortable in a year or two.

You clearly know nothing about SD Surf Girls then. ECNL is really going to drop the best club they have? One that won multiple national championships this last year? One that has team ranked as follows nationally on Soccer Rankings? If they did that it would be a clear sign to others to follow Surf to GA and the stupidest move ECNL could make.

ECNL absolutely doesn’t care. There will just be another club that fills their spot.

No telling what will happen the next couple of months but there are some big changes coming. GA/MLS have been dropping nothing but great news these past few months.

I still think ECNL comes and takes the rest of the top girls programs in GA, but if they don’t do it this year, it may be the beginning of the end.

They must’ve really pissed off MLS/US Soccer with that BY/SY crap

The way things are right now is the way they will always be. Nothing ever changes. ECNL will always be on top.

What has GA/MLS done? Not this alliance. That is a stepingstone to something later.

I have to agree that they do not care about any one or even several clubs as long as the rest holds. What is ECNL? It is a college soccer recruiting service. That is all.

It’s a league. Just like all of these leagues. They are just leagues. Playing in MLSNext doesn't mean you are in an MLS Academy.
