The days of trying to compare conferences ended years ago. The WCAC allows for athletic scholarships which are not need based and the IAC doesn't (largely upheld now that Bullis has a new president). SJC lacrosse has jumped on that over the last 3 years and created a competition gap. The IAC has stopped scheduling them in general bc of the imbalance and the aggressive nature of their recruiting current students. The WCAC is a National sports conference with compensated athletes and the IAC isn’t. It’s not going to get any better. |
| Bullis is playing SJC this year. |
| Yes, I believe this is the last year of the former president’s recruiting. They still have some kids who were given scholarships as freshman and the school kept those agreements in place. Take a look at Bullis football and basketball to a lesser degree. They are not the same from 4 years ago. There will be times when the schools match up but not nearly what it was 10 years ago. Tough to swallow for the older IAC crowd. Easy to point out to the WCAC guys. |
| SJC remains #1, Bullis @2, Prep 3, Gonzaga 4, DeMatha 5 |
| Why would SJC remain #1 when they lost the majority of their team last year? |
Bullis has one of the best basketball teams in the area and the President has been gone for 3 years. Bullis football has taken a step back, but Bullis basketball has taken 2 steps forward. Currently ranked 3rd by the Washinton Post. |

The equity rankings of the post have become a joke. Bullis still has some scholarship players and that seems to be the private school way. Bullis losing to Landon should change the ranking or at least show they sent that great.
For some reason, the privates love to bring in a bunch of basketball players and coaches and call it diversity instead of entertainment. I find it weird to see mostly aa teams at mostly affluent schools and pretend it’s nothing than paid entertainment. |
Bullis still recruits. |
This post does have some degree of truth and merit but the WCAC teams put a much bigger emphasis on football and basketball before lacrosse. I graduated from Gonzaga over 20 years ago, and while lacrosse is obviously a very popular sport at the school, I can assure you the greater Gonzaga community cares much more about the overall performance of their football and basketball teams. Don't get me wrong, I root for the lacrosse team, but football coaches and basketball coaches have more influence with administration and Head Priest. I suspect this manta is very similar at football powers DeMatha and St Johns - their budgets dwarf the lacrosse budgets. In my opinion, the IAC schools, traditionally appear to put more of a focus on lacrosse. It kinda makes sense as these schools generally are 2x the tuition as the WCAC schools and as a result attract a more affluent crowd. The WCAC schools are generally 2 - 4x larger than the IAC schools and thus pull more families from a wider socio-economic background. As it relates to lacrosse, I think everyone is going to be surprised this Spring as there is going to be a ton of parity this Spring. Don't think SJC will have nearly the season they had last spring and will come back down to reality. When you step back and look at the landscape, it's pretty amazing to see how far this area has come for HS lacrosse through. In the 90's it was really only Landon, then St Albans, Georgetown Prep, and DeMatha started to come along. We had a varsity team at Gonzaga but it was mainly football kids playing to stay in shape and have fun. St Johns to my recollection didn't even field a team and neither did Paul VI. |
Sorry to burst your bubble but the only lacrosse scholarship money being handed out at SJC and Gonzaga is need based. If you are well off your paying full boat unless you get an academic scholarship or you qualify for aid due to a lower economic status. You need to play football or basketball to get non need based aid. |
Just have to laugh at posts like this. Just because the school's call it need based aid, doesn't mean that its not majority merit. |
|
Bullis offers the best “merit” in the area. Prep, St. John’s and Gonzaga are a distant second when it comes to aid.
If you are lucky you can live in an assistant coach’s house at Bullis or Prep. |

Good Counsel had a team in the 90's and they were solid, they and DeMatha were one of the few teams who could compete with Landon at the team and even a few teams from the MSA (what is known as the MIAA today)
I'll take DC area lacrosse any day over the Baltimore area. Better football, better basketball, and now better lacrosse. |
Sorry but you obviously didn’t go through a recent recruiting cycle. |
