How many lbs dumbbells do you use?
I use 5lbs. |
| 10 |
| 12 lbs 15 reps x 3. 5 different exercise sets. |
| Depends on the exercise and the number of reps. |

Depends on the exercise and the repetitions
I deadlift 70lbs, but max out at 30lbs for bicep curls. What are you using 5lbs for? |
| What are you doing with them? It seems light to me. I don’t use anything below a 30lb dumbbell and I am not even super muscly (5’7 and 130lb) |
| 5 lbs is basically pointless. Let me guess. You haven’t seen any changes but you’ve been working sooooo hard? |
+1 I don't know how anyone can possibly answer this question. |
|
Depends on the exercise. 5 won't do jack shit for you though.
Curls- 20 lb right now Lunges- 35 lbs in each hand Skullcrushers- 12-15 lb Triceps extensions 20 lb |
Want to add for the most part dumbbells are pointless for most leg work. At a certain point your grip can't carry what your back can so you're better off using barbell weight for leg exercises. I will occasionally do curtsy or reverse lunges or step ups with a dumbbell in each hand though. |
Not necessarily. If you're doing something like Barre, where you do ENDLESS REPS for arms, 2.5 is plenty. It always cracks me up when men go to the class, and get 15s. Then they go back and get 10s. Then the go back and get 5s. And they they drop the weights entirely. Bro, you're not that tough up against dainty ladies with their 2.5s, for 15-20 minutes. |
| 2-3 pound weights at barre class, multiple reps. I look much more defined and toned using weights in this way than I ever did with heavier lifting at the gym. |
If that's your goal, then fine. But if you want to BE strong, rather than just look it, you need to lift heavy weights. OP, as PPs have said, it totally depends on what exercise you're using them for. |
| In barre class I use 5lb for the heavy weights and 3lb for the light. |
| anywhere from 3-35 lbs. for upper body depending on the exercise. anywhere from 15-140 lbs. for lower body. |
