Alternatives to Notre Dame

This is the school my kid has wanted to go to since 6th grade but it’s soooooo competitive to get into. I am worried she’s setting herself up for disappointmen and am committed to finding her safeties that she actually likes.

She has a 33 ACT, 3.87 GPA, would like to major in business. Cost is not a factor.

Well if you want a similar atmosphere with an undergrad business school, look at Villanova and Boston College. Not safeties though, especially for business schools, which are highly rated. Other ideas could be Fairfield, Fordham, Xavier, U. San Diego, Loyola Maryland, Loyola Chicago, Marquette.

Saint Mary's. Shared campus and activities

Did you send her to an all-girls catholic school? ND seems to take many girls from the local catholic high schools.

No. As a proud graduate of an all women’s college and ND, I can tell you that St. Mary’s students are often looked down upon as ND wannabes by the ND students and thought of as just looking for ND boyfriends/husbands. I know ithis a stereotype but does your daughter want to deal with it. Probably not and why spend four years trying to prove you’re not at St Marys because of it’s proximity to ND. And the two schools do not share a campus, though they are across a busy road from each other.

I’d recommend looking at Holy Cross.

+1 Re St. Mary’s. Holy Cross is excellent rec except no business school — it’s liberal arts. Plenty of grads in business though - could major in Econ?

PP here: clarifying that my +1 is saying I agree that SMC students won’t have same experience - I would not choose that for my or your high achieving DD.

Way to perpetuate stereotypes. Keep it up.

Good job keeping the women down, proud women's college grad. Instead of standing up to such obvious BS, you choose to spread it far and wide. Why have you made that choice?

What did your kid like about ND? I assume mid-size and private. Football? Midwest? Catholic? No greek? The list of schools with similar attributes might be different depending on which characteristics they liked.

I feel that OP. I come from a family of Notre Dame alums and for them and their kids...they’re not looking for a Catholic school with football or no Greek life or a college in the Midwest. It’s Notre Dame or nothing.

While true, ND males are more than willing to court, date and marry St Mary's girls. Just an fyi

Holy Cross isn't really Catholic any more.
