Subject: Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) Update
Wilson Feeder Pattern Community Working Group,

As some of you may know, the Mayor released her FY19 budget today, including the updated FY19-24 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). Included in the CIP was additional investment in Ward 3 schools. The CIP included funding to build additions at Key ES and Stoddert ES. We have attached the communications that were sent to schools that include more details on the timing and funding.

This investment will help address the space needs of these two communities – a real concern that has been discussed in our meetings. We are pleased to be able to plan for this additional investment, and are also cognizant that we still have work to do to identify a comprehensive solution for overcrowding throughout the feeder pattern, including at our secondary schools. We are still committed to identifying possible solutions and look forward to coming back together as a group again soon. In the meantime, we’re continuing to engage with the sub-committee to develop the summary document that we will use to inform additional planning, and we look forward to sharing the draft with the whole group.

Thanks again for your time and commitment,
Claudia

Great, so let's increase enrollment to wilson feeders without increasing space at Wilson. Sigh.

So Key is projected to be done for school year 2023 and Stoddert for school year 2025. These kids won't hit Wilson until fall of 2027 and fall of 2029.
At least some of our kids will be out of the system by then. It will effect current 3rd graders and below when they hit Wilson but will really only effect current K and below (K will be the first class that includes expanded numbers Key at Wilson and the incoming PK class will be the first to included
expanded Key and Stoddert numbers).

But are they expanding the facility to meet existing class size or increasing the capacity beyond current size?

It can be the former and yet create the latter. They will fill in the gaps where they can with OOB kids-- and this expansion creates more potential for gaps. All of that is fine in its own right, but without fixing the upstream problem they are only going to make the situation worse.

Who are you speaking for? The classes only get larger as you look to the younger grades in the entire Wilson feeder network. Lafayette, for instance, has only 4 classes of 4th graders right now, but 6 classes of 1st graders and kindergartners.

They are going to have to create another by-right HS WoTP, right?

To me, it's only a matter of time.

Or change the feeder pattern and route some students to another by-right high school.

Where is there another by-right HS that's feasible? The Hardy kids would probably be diverted to elsewhere, but I have no idea where that would be that makes sense from a proximity perspective.

There isn't. That's the issue.

Also, what's the capacity of Hardy?

So then again we come back to my original statement: "it's only a matter of time."

There's over 400 kids at Hardy.

Don't you mean Roosevelt HS? Not going to happen. Zero proximity to Hardy, that may be the worst commute in the city trying to get there from the Hardy feeders.
