I love that dress too! She looks fabulous.

Really? It’s so blah.

It looks kind of blah in the pictures but maybe it's stunning in person.

The fabric texture makes it look like beige and white cotton gingham check in the photo. Doesn't look stunning.

You seem angry people like it lol

DP and I haven’t commented on this dress. PP’s post was unemotional. Don’t get how you read anger.

Are you the Bettina/bow poster who was upset people commented unfavorably on the bow?

DP. It was more like people were upset that anyone dared to say how pretty she looked with the bow. This thread is too funny. It's like a requirement to say negative things and anyone who dares to say something positive is jeered at.

...you're replying to someone who said something positive about Bettina's dress

I was one of the anti-bow posters and the point wasn’t whether or not she looked pretty with a bow — she’s pretty and would look pretty in a sack from Walmart. The question was whether the bow looked dumb. I understand you disagree on that point but it seemed like we were talking past each other with the “pretty” issue. Yes, she’s pretty, we can stipulate to that.

I usually like Melania's style but this is so cheap and tacky looking. Great body but she looks squeezed in.

Agree. The breast implants are so obvious too.

Can you imagine the reactions if Michelle Obama had worn this?? Melania is a beautiful woman but does not have the best taste.

Huh? Michelle Obama wore plenty of cleavage baring sequined gowns. And she certainly didn't have "the best taste" all the time.

I guess you might consider this a cleavage-bearing sequin gown. Not slinky but still looks great. And I think Melanie, while I hate everything she represents, also looks great in the NYE slinky dress.

This is elegant and timeless. Not anything close to what Melanie was wearing on NYE.

The difference is that only one part of the look is revealing. Melania's dress shows a lot of cleavage and is close-fitted at the bottom so it gives off a very different vibe.

I don't think Melania's dress is that bad, but it does somehow look overall a size too small for her. Michelle's dress is in a different league. One is party, the other is ball.

Exactly. Michelle is elegant, Melania's is meant to be more tawdry/"look at me" party wear. Not even in the same league.

DP. I think the main difference is actually that Michelle worked very hard not to allow her clothing to ever detract from her husband's administration and was also under WAY more scrutiny as the first black First Lady and so many people looking for her to put a foot wrong.

Melania both gets and takes a lot more leeway, especially in this second administration. She has a very strong "no f***s left to give" energy that Michelle would NEVER have tried to get away with. The reason Michelle has really let loose with her fashion since they left office is because she worked so hard to tow the line while Barack was in office, despite being a woman who obviously enjoys having fun with fashion.

Melania can wear pretty much anything and even when it gets people talking, it doesn't negatively impact Trump because his administration is already insane. There is pretty much nothing she could do that would be more concerning than stuff that drivels out of her husband's mouth multiple times a day. No wonder she's showing up to New Year's in some boobtacular disco ball of a dress. Why not? What does she have to lose? Nothing. Michelle and Barack had a lot to lose and Michelle knew it and did her best not to create negative fallout.

+1 Great comment that reminded me of the good ol’ days of this series of threads. Back in the day, no one simply trashed or simped a look. There was actual analysis and humor.

I think the thread is the more or less the same although Trump 2.0 is just more depressing and there’s less Ivanka and Ivana is dead. But there’s always been long periods of nothing interesting and then making fun of these people.

Will have to go back and look, but I don’t remember single phrase, knee-jerk positive or negative reactions the first couple rodeos. You’re correct that Ivanka was the focus of a lot of the earlier threads, and she gave us a whole lot to work with. She’s less interesting to this forum now that she’s a socialite not cosplaying a Fed. And Kim has left the arena.

That's because Melania was in her own home and was celebrating NYE. M.O. was at some sort of White House function in this picture.

Mar-a-Lago is the defacto White House now you simpleton.

It’s not the defacto White House. They just go there a lot. That’s like saying Kennebubkport was the defacto WH in 2005.

There’s a big profile of Kim in the NYT this week but no new fashion shots unfortunately.

Speaking of simpleton ^^^. No, MAL is not the defacto WH. It's the Trumps' personal residence where they had a NYE party for their friends and family. It was not a WH state dinner.

Or the Bidens' Delaware beach house during the last administration.

As much as it pains me to be fair to the "It's the defacto WH now, SIMPLETON" poster, they hosted Xi at Mar-a-lago. But that's it, and I believe it was because Xi had already been to the White House and asked to see Mar-a-Lago.

But it's not the defacto White House at all. Trump managed to get a SCIF set up so he could watch the action in Venezuela lol but that doesn't make it the White House.

Y’all are a bunch of dumb@$$es if you don’t think our government is being run primarily from Florida.

Same morons who think Melania isn’t an apple or that 40 something women should wear bows in their hair.

I think Melania is an apple, but I liked Bettina's bow and I don't think our gov't is being run primarily from Florida. Am I still a simpleton, oh wise one?

What is it about this thread that attracts the biggest aholes? Sheesh.
