Just asking out of curiosity!
My fiance calls my parents mom and dad and has for about a year or so. All are fine with it. I just call his parents by their first names because that is what I am comfortable with and prefer to reserve mom/dad for my biological parents -- all are fine with that as well! So this works for us, but wondering what others so and if the transition to calling them something new was awkward. (Did they ask that you call them that? Did you just start post-marriage without a prompt?) |
I hav been married 20 years, I have never called them mom and dad. I don’t really call them by name. I just talk to them with calling them anything.
No, I called them their names or Mormor and Poppop (usually when the kids were around). DH called my parents by their names or Oma and Opa (again, usually when the kids were around).

Not once.
I do call them grandma and grandpa now that I have kids. |
No. they wanted me to but I just couldn't. I got a new brother in law this year and I'm a little upset he calls them mom and dad. I've been married 10 years and I'm sure he's the favorite inlaw already
I address them by thier first names, or refer to them as Oma and Opa with DD present.
Or he’s new/novel, they’re trying to make him feel welcome, and he asked. Relationships aren’t competitions, btw. |
No. I call them by their first names. They are my husband’s parents, not mine. Mom and Dad are reserved for my parents.
I just used their first names. They weren't my parents.
No, first names.
I just use their first names... Been married for 18 years.
No. I use her first name as that is what she told me I could do. I already have a mom and dad (two sets as an adoptee, actually, but I prefer to use mom and dad for the people who actually patented me).
Married 18 years. I call them Mom and Dad. My husband calls my parents Mom and Pops.
Yes. Why not. She asked me to and it's a small thing. My mom was not bothered by this.
My MIL still refers to my FIL as Mr. Jones when referring to him while speaking to me. I've only been married for 3-4 years but it still is annoying.
