For those who think they eat a sensible diet - How do you lose weight when you have a sloppy 10

Anonymous
I do not want to be extreme. I like to eat but can be guided to better choices. What does a sensible carve down look like?

exercise

Count your calories for a few weeks to see what you are really, actually eating. It might be more than you think.

Look at your portion sizes - are they unreasonable?

Are there any places you could cut easily? Alcohol? Sweets? Random salty snacks at 3:00 in the afternoon?

Tighten up those things and add in daily or near-daily exercise and report back. I lost a pound a week after grad school - had gained 20 lbs, lost 20 lbs in 20 weeks.

Cut out snacks and no eating/drinking (besides water) after dinner.

What the heck is a "sloppy 10?"

The easiest way to start is to cut out alcohol, cut out snacks, cut out sodas, limit desserts to once every few days or eat fruit instead of a sugary dessert.

Give it a week without sugar and see how you feel and how much you have lost.

OP here. Thanks. Those are great, tangible ideas.

Reduce or eliminate sugar and white carbs.

Easier said than done for me these days, though.

Dp. I think having a sloppy 10 is when you look mostly fine and are within a healthy weight range, but you'd look fantastic 10 pounds lighter and at the lower end of the healthy range. Am I correct, op?

Thanks for confirming! I, too, have a sloppy 10 I'm working on. I've cut out sweets and I don't eat after dinner. Down 3lbs in 2.5 weeks.

Yep.

And being short also means getting to eat much fewer calories. Like 1200 a day for me.

Oh how I feel you at 5ft tall! 5 pounds is a difference in 2-3 pant sizes for me.
