Kristin Cecci hasn’t posted on Instagram since right around the party which is odd because she really does
Post almost every day on IG stories and posts pics every couple days. Hope her family isn’t ill from the party!

"In her [Instagram] post, [Julie] Kent does not elaborate on how she might have contracted the virus. But at least three ballet employees became sick after the Washington Ballet’s online gala June 18, according to several people with knowledge of the gala’s fallout who spoke on the condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to speak publicly on behalf of the ballet."

Sigh. If you'd like to watch her as she breathes in the viral particles after Ashley breathes them out, The Gala. I can't believe this video hasn't been shared yet.

They look like they’re doing an infomercial for Swarovski crystals.

Yes, I had to stop watching the gala because those airheads drive me nuts. Interesting new choreography but I felt I was watching g a home-shopping channel. I had no idea who these women are but kept wondering why on earth the WB had picked them. This thread has enlightened me, but not in a good way..

They're even worse in person so you're not missing much. I have never understood what Joe saw in Ashley and I understand even less now. Yikes.

Has her Instagram always been private?

Well darn, Candace had an Ask Me Anything on her Instagram, and we could have gotten some answers to our questions .

She died before I was born, and my grandfather on that side when I was young so we were not close. I don’t “name drop” at all irl I don’t think anyone I know casually knows anything about my family. I don’t talk about them and am not at all ostentatious and a blabbermouth.

Tbh, I think my grandmother and Mrs. Harriman became friends because they were both smart and savvy women who married “up” several times, and they were both in the dc social scene at the same time. I met her several times and she taught me that asparagus is acceptable to be eaten with your fingers.

I found your story quite interesting so I tried to sleuth out who your grandmother might be and I’ll admit I came up quite empty looking for someone who matched your description. I like the story though! If you’re willing to post her name, I’d like it even more!

I don’t think her name would come up much in DC anymore - she mostly moved to the west coast in the 1990s and lives there until she died (though she’d return to dc a few times a year). She did an oral history and I’m hoping to write a memoir of her at some point. Her name was Mercedes Gueydan Hester Davidson Douglas Eichholz.

Thanks! I didn’t go back as far as the FDR nominees so that explains why I could not figure it out. I never realized Justice Douglas was such a dawg in his personal relationships! A “what comes around goes around” kind of guy, I guess.

Oh yes, he was quite a character. And a crappy dad, but did instill a lot of really interesting traits in my mom.

I’m impressed that you gave the name given that your identity comes up in the first google hit. She does sound amazing though.

Thanks so much for sharing your (fascinating) grandmother’s life with us! My great-grandmother was Nancy Belle Norton and I’m similarly proud of her (though she wasn’t quite so fancy!). 😀

Well, they probably have antibodies now, so no need to avoid!

I loved hearing about PP's grandmother. And PP, I enjoyed your writing style, too!

If unpleasant people like this are the life of these parties, why are so many people wanting to be their friends and be a part of that "scene?"

Oh please, we do not have "society pages." We do not have "socialites." We do not have a fundraising "scene." Anyone can buy a ticket to a fundraising party and become a donor to whatever organizations they choose. You can even give the money without going to the party. It's a transaction, and it's not attached to any sort of meaningful social cache. This is not Gilded Age New York. People in Washington have always and will always be more interested in political/media power. THAT's the "scene" here.

I wish that were so. Are you not a NW DC private school mom? Trust me, there is a very hefty, very exclusive and ugly social scene.

i am not the PP, but there is no "popular" group of moms in NWDC that people are trying to be a part of, at least not the WOHMs.

I am not, but I went to a NW private school and I really don't think this is a real thing. People sucked up to parents who were powerful. Instagram and a ballet gala do not make you powerful.
.

They aren't politically powerful. They are the popular and pretty set - John and Kristin Cecchi, Tara Patten and her husband, Sara and Chris Lange, Callie and Brad Nierenberg, Winston Lord and his wife, Brooke and Fritz Brogan, etc. Yes, anybody can go to a charity gala, but these are the pretty, popular and fun couples everyone wants to be friends with.

Who is “everyone?” Everyone without a life? Pp you sound like a stalker.

—nw dc private school mom, kids at big 3’s, have a real job/real life/real friends and so do most people I know.

Has no one mentioned that the "director" of the "summer camp" Chloe Kaplan had COVID early on and made a big dramatic stink on IG about how sick she was with it? Then goes and runs a summer camp for the rich women she sucks up to as her "business". She is a phony and a hypocrite.

Such bad writing! Like a Carrie Bradshaw diary entry. Emotionally stunted and trying to be cute but not too cute.
