Agree, but that is why the colleges also hold camps as well. So they can take a look. Colleges know what’s up. DD picks what colleges fit her best for her major, then go talk with the coaches. They would know DD used to play DA and is making her way into a new club. The key is communication with the colleges you want to attend. If DD is a stud, they will come knocking. |
My DD is on an ECNL team. The top 3-5 DA girls from ex DA teams will move and will make the top team in ECNL. ECNL clubs are not going to protect current rosters by offering talented girls the 2nd team and tell them they will have to work their way up. Get real. I can already see the coaches huddling with the new parents. If your club does not offer the first team, these girls will go to the next clubs or stay were they are. If one clubs gets 3 or more players from ex DA teams that team will be a very strong. Remember all the ECNLs will be improving their rosters. If an ECNL club protects its water down roster they will be a bottom feeder club in the new ECNL landscape and their top girls will leave for a better ECNL team. The bottom ECNL teams do not get the exposure of the top teams. Very few girls will want to move to be on the second team. Second teams at most place are treated like they do not exist...at places like mclean it’s even worst. There is a lot of room on the ECNL teams. People are screaming about how water down the talent is but it’s only water down at the ex DA clubs ....sure. |
No one is disputing that. That bottom quarter (4) of every roster is always up for grabs. This is not new. Contrary to reporting on this forum, Some ECNL teams have the ability right now to absorb 3-4 players without making a single cut. |
This is accurate. +1 |
This is a parent self-comforting that their bubble player won't be cut. |
| Read the ECNL competition rules...Rosters can be as large as 30 players. Game day roster of 18max. Seems like teams could easily add DA players without cutting a single person. Playing time is another story. |
Do not join a team if they roster any more then 20. 18 is better. It is a recipe for team unhappiness and friction from the top of the roster on down. Kids are asked not to dress, too many get little playing time, and so on. If half the team is miserable then the other half is unhappy as well. Avoid those teams and clubs. |
And since "tryouts" may not happen until who knows when, and not everyone will be the same player then as they were in February before this all went downhill, it might be in their best interest to do the "take everyone" (and their money) approach and then let the fight for play time/being rostered take place among paying players. Creates a bit of a college situation, doesn't it? |
This is over-simplified. Not every DA and ECNL roster is the same in terms of strength. For example, the entire MU roster (at 03 and younger) may have be challenged to make any ECNL team while 15 of some FCV or 8 of some Arlington rosters could displace some ECNL team's rosters if a true tryout could happen. Everyone thinks their team is the best including teams that are at the bottom of weak divisions in their league. They are the best last place teams in history. |
ECNL has to hit the sweet spot. Add enough new clubs and recruit the ex da girls to leave not enough to talent to form a rival league. A rival league will form. How good it will be depends on how the ECNL handles it. Chances are they will be heavy handed, keep fighting old battles, incompetent and egotistical...it’s travel soccer! Only the paying customer will suffer. |
This assumes that all families are able and willing to be back to this league. Remember that many families are going through a harsh situation. DMV and other states. Not one has commented on the future of ECNL league. DMV families benefit from working for federal government but families in other states may not. Some colleges have started to cancel sports due to their future landscape. |
Heard some colleges canceling soccer. |
There are a lot of things wrong with ECNL! ECNL has a business model that works for ECNL and its member teams. First and foremost that is what matters in youth soccer in the US. |
From the 04s down, both BRYC and Mclean are ECNL bottom-feeder clubs. That’s the geographic opportunity for the Arlington girls. In fact, I bet some Arlington age groups, if they’re smart, could work a deal to move their top 5-8 players from any given team at 03 and below to either BRYC or Mclean and displace half of the starting roster. And still mostly play with their prior Arlington teammates. |
