SWW - when do notices go out about interviews?

Anonymous
My kid with a 4.0/top math track did not get an interview last year.
I don't recall the exact schema for GPAs (and it may have changed this year) but I think kids with a 3.5-4.0 got the same number of points. They were only differentiated by the teacher recs. Last year there were teachers who did not rank kids as perfect or close to perfect (on principle) and had entire classes of kids who did not get interviews.
It's a flawed system.

Ugh I hoped they had fixed this, among all the moving-target aspects of the process.

Are teacher recs on a point scale (e.g., from 1 to 10: The student is always prepared for class) in addition to freeform write-ups?

Do you know if it was the same this year? It seems like it’s always changing.

They should bring back the test.

also, does anyone know if Banneker is in tranches this year, or is it apparently all in one like Walls.

What was the title to the email for those who got the Walls interviews?

+1. And I'm not sure there are too many *more* qualified applicants -- I think there must just be a big cluster at the top (4.0, top math track, etc.)

Much easier said than done this week, but if you think bigger picture and not about individual students, it is a good problem that there are so many high performing students applying to high schools.
Already in the past few years we have seen increased enrollment at Banneker, McKinley, and the beginning of an increase at Eastern. (I am not as familiar with all of the high schools, there may be more too).
I am the parent of a 7th grader so I know I will be stressing this time next year as well, but I do think it is not as dire as people think

Banneker is (and has historically been) in tranches - they interview large pools of kids at a time on specific days.

Do they send out the notices in tranches though too? Or just do the interviews in tranches?

Banneker invited the first tranche of applicants, before the teacher recommendation deadline had even passed, for interviews this week. Today they invited a second tranche of applicants to interview next week.

I really wish you were right but I fear what's really happening is rampant grade inflation and ever lower standards.

As somebody who has been reading this forum for years, there is definitely a change in the number of posts/questions about pk3 lists vs middle and high school. Lots more folks playing the lottery game in DCPS/charter in the upper grades in DCUM land

NP and I do think this is a big part of it.

+1. It’s THIS. Kids are definately not smarter and standards are so much lower. Grade inflation is rampant.
