SWW - when do notices go out about interviews?

Anonymous
Just got confirmation that they only sent out notifications to those invited to interview.

And they are complete? Or do they plan to send some invitations today?

Didn’t they send out the SWW interview invitations in two waves last year? One each week?

To clarify, I asked the school if they were sending out notifications to those who were not invited to interview. Their response was they only sent out notifications to those invited to interview.

So they've sent out yes's and have not yet sent out no's. But have they sent out *all* the yes's?
Anonymous
It seems that they are done.

Bump as to the question whether the interview emails went out in two batches or just one last year.

Same. My kid has a 4.0 and I am assuming good teacher recs, so expecting at least an interview

lol

Same, and we have heard nothing. No interview invite. No ding. I thought this was a magnet school where they considered a student's application, but this feels like pure lottery.

It’s essentially both. There is a lot of demand and not a lot of supply, so essentially it’s a lottery to whittle down. Im sorry for those qualified kids who didn’t get an interview.

The system is just horrid. DC needs more schools like Walls. If they had more schools city-wide of Walls' size it would benefit so many kids.

Couldn't agree more, unfortunately there's a lot of pushback in DC against creating more magnet or selective high schools, since the population skews heavily towards needs on the other end of the spectrum, which ends up hurting kids on the accelerated end. They've even diluted it down further by taking things like the test away from admission criteria for Walls.
Even harder is trying to establish selective selective middle schools, which is why certain charter schools have become a proxy of sorts to satisfy this gap.

You can voice this need to your Council member, but likely to fall on deaf ears.

The school said that if you didn’t receive anything last night, you aren’t getting an interview. They plan to send another round of emails today to those who received one last night to finalize the interview times. Very much sounded like it’s over.

I don't know about last year but the email for this year says that the student will either be called for the interview on February 22 or March 1. So I would not anticipate another wave, as it looks like the preliminary invite notice is already for both waves.

There are already multiple selective high schools -- SWW, Banneker, Bard Early College, CHEC,
McKinley Tech, Phelps, etc

City Council doesn't control schools in DC. Mayor controls DCPS and independent PCSB controls charters.

Feeling a bit down about kid not getting SWW interview. I know there are many more qualified applicants etc.

+1. And I'm not sure there are too many *more* qualified applicants -- I think there must just be a big cluster at the top (4.0, top math track, etc.)

Bummed for my kid. Maybe pissed at his teachers too
