SWW - when do notices go out about interviews?

Anonymous
I could only find a thread from last year that people started updating, but that seems silly. Has anyone received notice from school Without Walls yet about interviews?

We have not. Straight A kid.

I wonder if they're running into the situation where they have a lot of kids scoring full points for GPA and for teacher recs. I guess it would depend on how they assign points for GPA and teacher recs.

Same poster - does anybody know what the teacher rec looks like? Is there an overall rating that the teacher gives?

I thought interviews were going to start on Feb 24. SWW needs to get info out to families asap.

SWW's web site says interviews are 2/24 and 3/2. My guess is that things look a little bit different than last year schedule-wise because DCPS doesn't have the full February break this year (though some charters do).

My fear is they are overwhelmed by the number of people who applied. As least in our neighborhood, this was a huge class when it entered DCPS at PS3 and K (two years later). Clearly some people have moved but I’m sure others have moved in. Maybe it has all balanced out but I do wonder if this is the year where it takes a 4.0 to even get an interview (or that 4.0 kids are left off the interview list).

Or maybe I’m just stressing about this too much. Hopefully just this.

Plus this class had crazy lenient post-Covid grading. It was honestly difficult to get anything but an A at Deal. My kid essentially did not turn in a single assignment on time throughout 7th grade and made up all the work within the last week of each quarter and still got a 4.0.

Grading at Deal was far less forgiving when my 2 older kids went through.

I sure hope that SWW will notice that about Deal and not penalize kids from the many other schools that didn't inflate grades like this. But I'm not holding my breath.

Deal posts the Principal's honor roll (all As, including A-) each semester. There were 92 names on both seventh grade lists last year. Total enrollment was 1391. If there were about 460 seventh graders, 20% made the Principal's honor roll both semesters, and some those probably did not get a 4.0 because they had at least one A-. Maybe I am jaded about grade inflation overall, but that does not seem particularly egregious.

I honestly don't know where to look for my 8th grader's GPA.

I agree with you! Seems reasonable.

Just got an email saying child wouldn’t get an interview even though met GPA requirement. No mention of what standard was used.

My kid had a 4.0 and I just got an email that they aren't moving forward or being invited to interview. I am irate.
