Why are book banners showing up at FCPS SB meetings

Some school boards make it even shorter.

Looks like there's a trend. Some school boards REALLY don't want parents inconveniencing elected officials with their opinions.

Exactly. And Terry McAuliffe agrees with them, “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach.”

I will be so glad when this election is over.

18.2-374.1

" 'Child pornography' means SEXUALLY EXPLICIT VISUAL MATERIAL which utilizes or has as a subject an identifiable minor."

18.2-374.1:1

"C. Any person who knowingly . . . DISTRIBUTES . . . PURCHASES, or possesses with intent to . . . distribute, transmit, or display child pornography . . . shall be punished by not less than five years nor more than 20 years in a state correctional facility."

"F. For purposes of this section it may be inferred by text, title or appearance that a person who is depicted as or presents the appearance of being less than 18 years of age in sexually explicit visual material is less than 18 years of age."

Right.
So,
None of this is even remotely applicable to either book in question.

Yeah, but he put DISTRIBUTES and PURCHASES in caps and did a “just sayin”. So he must know something.

I love it when non-lawyers play attorney.

If there was any doubt the speaker was all about political purposes, Youngkin brought up “book challenges” at the debate and is already using this episode in an ad.

And now there are more speaker slots than were previously available. And they added two more public hearings. And they have town halls and office hours and emails. Lots of ways to reach out but it would be great of people stopped trying to score political points when they do.

Or maybe they just want to get business done. You can talk to your elected officials when you want.

I attended Pekarsky and Keys Gamarra’s town hall last night. They took questions. There were only 24 people on the Zoom session. Including them and there assistants. 20 people got an hour of attention. They also had office hours pre-COVID. My rep still does them virtually. She also responds to email. They will engage. I mean, maybe not if you are abusive. But in general, you just need to be willing to show up.

Same experience. I’ve always had my questions answered in McLaughlin’s town halls and on the few occasions I have e-mailed her I have received a thoughtful reply back. I always specify that I live in the Braddock district when I email.

Not well advertised. I live in Pekarsky's district and have sent her emails on a couple of occasions. I knew nothing about it.

Shocker

If the “concerned mom” is an actress does she get residuals if she’s used in political ads?

Let’s see - who should the primary drivers of VA curriculum…

Professional educators with advanced degrees in child development/education plus decades of actual classroom experience

Or

Parents who can’t check basic facts before propagating misinformation

I think you mean when lay people play lawyer. But okay.

You don't think GOP knows what is going on at SB meetings? It has been in the news, did you know that?

I will be SO GLAD when the governer's election is over. I am sick and tired of Republican hacks taking over DCUM and trying to play politics in this forum. This is about schools, if you want to talk politics, go to the political forum.
