Biden strikes out with King Manchin

I'm willing to accept the risk that Trump gets his entire agenda passed without a fuss. It's the price of losing elections. I also think abolishing the filibuster would reduce tensions across the board as each side would be able to see their legislative programs put into law and attempt to create their vision of this great nation.

But if Dems can't say to themselves, honestly, that they'd be prepared for (say) a nationwide ban on abortion, or whatever the GOP wants to pass, then they might not be so eager to abolish the filibuster.

I'm not. The man banned entire groups of ethnic minorities from immigrating to this country with a flick of his pen under 'emergency' laws. What do you think he'd do to American citizens without the filibuster? Don't forget...when the looting starts, the shooting starts.

I’m surprised Biden isn’t using executive powers to ramp up the pressure just a wee bit here. You can start by slow rolling the checks to West Virginia welfare recipients, of which they are many. Cut hours at the local SS office and post office. Slow roll Medicare reimbursements. Flood his office with stupid constituent complaints and you have plausible deniability the whole time.

You realize without Manchin the Democrats wouldn't even be able to confirm appointments without asking the Republics nicely.

So yeah, go ahead and start targeting American citizens to put "pressure" on a senator you desperately need.

Ok but what’s Manchin going to do? Hold up a judicial appointment? People getting their checks late for 3 years and seeing Highway funds sent elsewhere is going to have a serious impact on his future ability to play king. He can hold up whatever he wants, but if he can’t bring home the bacon he’s done. If Joe’s agenda is toast, might as well burn down the guy that humiliated him in Fox.

That is exactly what he's going to do. Get out of your urban oasis.

Biden just had TWO major crushing blows thanks to the judiciary. The courts struck down his vaccine mandates for workplace employers nationwide.

Burning down 'the guy' is burning down the nation. Without the courts and flipping them, abortion bans in EVERY state not just the wackos like Texas. Stand your ground/shoot to kill laws in every county and gun nuts happily going crazy. Disability rights disappear. Women's equal pay canceled out. The right to vote completely eliminated.

Not all of us want to live in a hellhole of completely eradicated civil rights that we worked damned hard for just because you're pissy you don't get free child allowances.

Bug off.

LGBTQ rights gone too. That'll be first. I believe Tennessee just eliminated the ability of gay couples to adopt there. Somehow that has extended itself to ban on Jews adopting. TN wasn't even known as a crazy hillbilly state in the first place.

I really don't give a shit. Our civil and voting rights are under threat. Instead of grandstanding speeches the day before a failed vote after a year of ignoring the problem maybe Biden should be focused on that instead of his universal social welfare policies.

Damn. Manchin is willing to support voting rights - stop trying to take a mile and accept a few feet of voter protections and come back for more.

Oh nos! Manchin spoke to a donor!

I just have to hope there aren't donors talking to any other senators. That would be bad.

No, he’s not. Stop trying to excuse him.

How would you like it if a dozen Republicans started voting for everything Biden wanted, and as it happened they got millions from Democrat donors? No problem, right?

Surprise! Biden hasn’t the backbone to go against his own class to help the poors.

Thanks to the way whites vote; politicians have the power to completely disregard the needs of the masses. They go into politics not to serve, but to be served.

While fighting us on healthcare; they get the greatest healthcare paid for by the public.

Politics is a way to glad-hand super rich corporate donors, and to usher their own children and family members onto corporate boards and great careers.

He's literally a co-sponsor on the Freedom To Vote Act https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/117/s2747/cosponsors

I know this is a very old post and things have changed since December, but why would you raise taxes when so many Americans (those that work) are one paycheck away from homelessness?

In order to cover the non-working and/or PT workers? I am legitimately sorry that having children/living is so expensive, but why do we have to change things in order to cover people who choose not to support themselves?

If you’re disabled, we take care of that (SS disability), if you need a job, there are plenty.

Common sense on these free everything boards is sorely lacking.

Wut? Can you re-write in a way that makes sense?
