The unfortunate reality for age guy is grouping Aug Sept players by grade makes things easier for clubs because theres no oddballs when recruiting or during the teams 8th grade season (grade older players would leave the team for 3-4 months)

Aug birthdays can still guest on grade down teams for tournament wins.

Lower level teams are kind of a grey area between rec and travel soccer. Can be a good option for multiple sport kids.

IF ECNL is embracing what you are saying, why not just say it, like a few USYS clubs actually have? They have a podcast. They are big on communication. Why be secret?

Yes, those parents on the Facebook threads you shared who were looking forward to their kids becoming the oldest on their team. Not everyone sees things your way. It's why flexibility is required/welcomed.

Clubs wont allow to teams to have Aug misaligned players playing down on them. Its that simple, fight it all you want. Not having misaligned players playing down makes things much easier for clubs to manage. You might see clubs guesting Aug /Sept players on grade down teams for wins at tournamants but this would by one off situations

OR you might see clubs do the opposite -- as long be speculated/debated on here -- roster by age and showcase by grade.

That wont happen because ECNL posts players graduating year in their player profiles. It would show a grade older player playing on a grade younger team.

What you could do is dual roster on both teams.

But I wouldn't expect a player playing league on a grade down team to suddenly tear things up at a grade up showcase. Also I wouldn't expect grade down players or parents to be happy about a player on a grade older team playing down at showcases and stealing their minutes.

Except you might see a player tear it up at a showcase if that younger team is competing for a national title. There's all sorts of levels even within ECNL. It's all about getting minutes and competition.

No theres one level its called ECNL

If you want to play a different level its called ECRL.

That is what the correct grade in school B team is for.

Why need grade alignment for a B team?
No college recruiting happening there

Kids don't even go to the same school or live in same neighborhood

Some really good clubs are based in parts of larger metros where kids do know each other outside of soccer. Same grades, especially at younger ages, can be helpful developmentally. Again, the problem is trying to make everyone do one particular thing.

That wont happen because ECNL posts players graduating year in their player profiles. It would show a grade older player playing on a grade younger team.

What you could do is dual roster on both teams.

But I wouldn't expect a player playing league on a grade down team to suddenly tear things up at a grade up showcase. Also I wouldn't expect grade down players or parents to be happy about a player on a grade older team playing down at showcases and stealing their minutes.

Except you might see a player tear it up at a showcase if that younger team is competing for a national title. There's all sorts of levels even within ECNL. It's all about getting minutes and competition.

No theres one level its called ECNL

If you want to play a different level its called ECRL.

I guess you miss those blowout scores that happen all too often. It's the biggest problem in closed, club-based leagues. Not every age group is as talented.

Clubs don't have the capacity to collect and police grade info.

Except, there's that one club that had the whole elaborate process of applying for an age group and trying out AND if you didn't like the results, you could go back the next year. Another example that you shared that didn't prove your point at all.

Youth sports has always been about RAE and plastic trophies, even for boomers. RAE is a huge factor in determining who quits and who moves up. It's why Q1 BY so pissed and Q2 annoyed going to SY.

I agree that process wasnt necessary. Its much easier for clubs to just ask players grade in school during tryouts like Arlington did.
