Since you haven't figured it out ECNL has realized that their astroturf campaign isn't working.

US Soccer is allowing leagues to do whatever they want in 2026. Different leagues will need to all negotiate with each other if want to have the same rules.

I highly doubt different leagues will be able to work together. Which is why ECNL wanted US Soccer to mandate some kind of change.

Hasn't happened yet....and don't tell me it's an IT or software issue. Just let us know division my 2011 is playing in next season. They aren't ready to give you the answer to that yet. Be patient.

They hired US Soccer's compliance person the day after the Nov 22 meeting. They are working on a rollout but these things take time, they are dotting I's and crossing T's.

Many ECNL clubs have already indicated to their membership that there is no change next year, but beyond next year there might be change, the details of which are still TBD.

Yes my clubs director told us the same. No change for next year. Unless ecnl have something up their sleeve no changes will be happening. So if your kid is a 2012 Q3/4 congratulations they never have to be trapped.

My kid is 2012 Q4. How do you mean? She was trapped in 2024. Unfortunately looks like she'll be trapped in 2025. And MAYBE by 8th grade she'll actually get to play with her own grade and avoid some of the real issues with being trapped. Are you just referencing the 8th grade situation or am I missing something? 2025 would be ideal because its the first year of ECNL for 7th graders and she can align with a team that'll hopefully stay together for a while.

On paper, unless she played up on a team that had/has HS freshmen OR skipped a grade(s), she wouldn't be trapped until 26-27. Or, please enlighten us on how she was trapped this year AND next year? I guess it wouldn't surprise that there are even more scenarios with the US having so many different schooling choices/systems.

It's my self definition of trapped. I see trapped as she can't play with her grade. And it's almost worse knowing she WILL be playing with her grade but not yet! For the 6-8th grade group this issue is urgent. Its been a broken system and the sooner its fixed the more likely to ensure we don't get early dropout.

There is an actual definition for a trapped player. You don't get to self define.

You must have a better dictionary than I do because it was nowhere to be found in my websters. Regardless, the implications for my daughter getting established this year vs next at this age are huge. The ECNL teams are already established for 2012. We did GA this year (a mistake I'd rather not repeat). I'd like to get her into the ECNL ecosystem sooner than later but one, it'll be hard to disrupt a current team as a November bday if they are all older and in the system. Two, that's alot of effort for one year and we are there are tons of competitive teams so getting this figured out would likely change her development path. Not the end of the world but obviously better to do this asap.

I wouldnt worry too much. The competivive balance will make sure your daughter has the options you want. 50% of ECNL Rosters in 24 months will be September to December.

Good point and she's lucky it'll be her 8th grade year in 2026.

Clubs who refuse to adapt won't win.... Just keep your daughter healthy and she will get her spot if she can play. Check out the 2013's if you want to see what she has to compete with. I know you will be happy after you do.

Nope, maybe in 6 years when all thr youngers come up but not immediately.

I've seen some seriously taleted kids try playing a year up and not sniff the field at a top 5 ECNL program in the country. I think people will be really shocked when RAE is layed out for all to see. This might be the best thing to ever happen to US youth soccer.

I haven't read this whole thread, so maybe it's already been said. But this has zero effect on RAE other than to e the line.

Don't worry. There's a guy that hangs around to remind us of just that anytime we mention BY going away. We get it. We know. We don't care. Nobody wants SY because it eliminates RAE. It's all about the trapped players and this stupid system we've created to try and get around them.

They remind you that RAE is the same under BY and SY because you keep trying to justify SY by saying that it will minimize RAE which is blatantly false.

We get that you're trying every angle you can to give your kid an advantage. But just take them to the park and work on shooting it will help them way more than tilting the rules in their favor.
Why would anyone bother justifying SY at this point? Done deal.

It's up to the leagues. If some likes BY, they should push/advocate that, especially if their kid is born earlier in the year. That's what parents of kids who were trapped did and they were able to get where we are now. It actually would benefit the whole system if it ends up that way.

I think there's a very good chance that this is what happens.

The girl dad's don't understand that ECNL is 2nd tier to MLSN for boys.

Ha! I think you take a lack of caring as misunderstanding. If you're angry that your kid is second rate don't express your angry at those of with top tier kids. I hope your boy improves, then maybe you can join the MLSN thread and leave us champions alone. Good luck!

If you didn't care, you wouldn't have reponded or wished the PP good luck! And good luck to you. Just no need to be such a jerk, ya know?

Sorry, I'll try to respond better the next time somebody calls me a confused, second rate girl dad. lol. Not sure where you're from. Where Im from when we're poked....we poke back.

Facts are facts boys do generally prefer MLSN over ECNL. It's unfortunate that you feel facts are some kind of "poke" at you.

OMG, read the thread. We don't misunderstand where ECNL fits in for boys. We simply don't care. Boys prefer MLSN? I know you want me to care....sorry. I just don't. But don't confuse my lack of caring for misunderstanding. Your mad because we're focused on ECNL, go find a group that cares about your boy problems.

Geez ... Stop fouling each other. Yellow cards for you both!

No I enjoy "poking" at the ECNL mega fan boy with facts they don't understand.

No way ECNL is abandoning the trapped player issue after digging it all up again. I just graduated out a trapped ECNL player who is currently playing D1 and now have a trapped 2012. Now that the trapped player issues have resurfaced, I have an expectation for her not to have to deal with the same crap her sister dealt with, namely the younger team detesting the trapped players during 8th and 12th grades.

Nothing going to change until 26/27. US Club is working on their plan but no changes for next year.

ECNL has something up their sleeve for fall of 2025. A lame duck year is just wasted time. We just need to wait for their plan.

There will be changes for 25. ECNL at a minimum. Otherwise they would have put out statement saying.... NO CHANGES FOR 25.

Can someone point me to where ECNL has mentioned making changes in Fall 2026? Not that I don’t believe it’s going to happen but it’s just hard to keep up with this message board.

You somehow want us to fix the fact that your son isn't good enough for MLSN. Not sure how to help you there buddy, but don't be mad at us because we have daughters that play at the highest level. You realize you came to ECNL thread right?

Lol. The whole point of this thread is that ECNL has said absolutely nothing except they would like to see change happen as soon as possible. USSF made everything murky by saying leagues are free to change in 2026. SO the assumption is that ECNL is definitely changing in 2026 (but again they've said nothing after the USSF announcment). What keeps this thread burning is the question around 2025. Now that change is certainly coming, will ECNL do something to help trapped players in 2025? There are millions of options on what happens here including tons of conspiracy theories and if you scroll back a few hundred pages, every theory on the planet is here and is well substantiated with reliable heresay.

Thank you! Need to copy and paste this every time someone suggests trapped players somehow have it "easier" or can just play down on the lower team. If only it were that simple.

Yeah, the campaign clearly worked. It's like a boxer winning the match in round 2 instead of round 1. No one would say the boxer lost the match because he had to fight the second round. Maybe the victory was less crushing, but it's still a victory. Mandate removed, and a majority (once mass disruption is inevitable) of leagues prefer SY - I don't see how people look at that and think, "I guess everyone is staying BY." SY won the debate, despite the insistence of some in this thread, neutral parties recognized that trapped player issues are actually real, and it's time to move on to asking the questions, "What is the next 1.5 year transition going to look like for most leagues, will MLSN really hold out, and if so will MLSN be able to keep any other leagues BY?"
