Fairfax County Double Murder

Please don’t say that. She is not him and has nothing to do with the choices her father made. She is going to be a happy, healthy, normal woman. I am sure CB’s parents and sister will get her whatever she needs to reconcile with her past and move on with her life.
Don’t be this person.
Children that come from happy, normal families can turn into monsters and vice versa.

No way. She already has his genes. And she has the worst trauma any human can imagine, losing her mother at such young age. And on top of it, add the trauma of knowing you dad did it. She will never recover from this.

Speaking about a child as if she is irreparably broken because of her parent’s actions is deeply inappropriate.

She is not her father. She is a child who deserves compassion, privacy, and the chance to grow without strangers writing a tragic ending for her.

This kind of speculation says far more about you than about her or any child in her situation. I think your genes are the problem here, not hers.

Fortunately, human beings simply don't work this way.

But there was something about the aggravated homicide charge needing 2 people killed within 3 years or same transaction - what if the jury is convinced on Christine but not on Joe?

I guess they did not want to charge separately because of whatever sentencing attaches (?), but they kind of put the bar higher for themselves than they needed to? I understand they may have done for strategic reasons.

Full disclosure - not a lawyer. I haven’t seen the jury instructions..I doubt they’d be posted online. I was of the understanding that juries in VA can return convictions for lesser offenses than what was charged in the indictment(s). What’s interesting is this CNN article ( https://www.cnn.com/2026/01/30/us/brendan-banfield-jury-double-murder-trial ) says “Prosecutors and Banfield’s defense attorney agreed not to offer the jury less severe homicide charges to consider against Banfield.” I’m wondering if that’s because this was charged as basically 2 premeditated murders in 1 rather than separate counts. Sorry if I’m basically just repeating your question in my response.

PP here. I just looked up the VA Codes. The statutory minimum for First Degree Murder (of 1 person) is 20yrs, max is Life. The minimum for Aggravated murder is Life. I do think your question about setting the bar high is a good one. Personally, I think he’ll be found guilty, but we’ll see about the possibility of a hung jury. IMO, no chance at a not guilty verdict.

They really wanted to put him in for life then and may have worried about a compromised verdict. But I'm curious what the CW had to prove in order to show that he "killed" two people. Is it enough that he set the whole thing up? That he told Juliana to shoot? Or did he need to deliver the kill shot to Joe for it to qualify? Maybe a VA criminal lawyer will chime in and reassure me!

Listen to the prosecuter at closing arguments for your answer. It is enough to be involved/participating in the murder ro count under the law, it doesnt matter what shot actually killed Joe. And Brendan admitted to shooting Joe in the 911 call.

Did you guys read the Discord messages ?

I was thinking, maybe BB was telling Juliana what his plan was but she didn’t believe he was actually gonna do it until it all happened ? Maybe she started talking about leaving him and that’s what made him hurry up and do it ?

It makes no sense for him to invite her to a trip to NY on the 24th, and her saying ‘no’ if they were planning to kill CB on that day.

These are the things that can raise reasonable doubt, I think.

According to Juliana’s testimony, they were being careful about the digital footprint all of this (well, at the least the catfishing) was leaving.

Thank you for the tip about the Discord messages. There's one where she's at a farm with the child and he keeps begging for pictures and Juliana says she doesn't want to be vulgar while child is there.

Whoa, you weren't kidding, yikes.

And also, these letters and messages make it seem like he WAS in love with Juliana which is so weird. Picking baby names, writing about using her shampoo, spraying the pillow with her perfume, what type of wedding he wanted... I can't even tell if it's fake or if he's that hard up. Maybe once the murders happened he wasn't able to hook up with women so easily.

I think it was fake and he was just trying to get her not to flip on him.
