| I watched 15 minutes last night. At one point they were all clapping for Tonya Harding. WTF An award show where they were supposed to be standing up for violence against women. It is ok to club another woman in the knee? Tonya continues to lie. Next year they will probably have some movie about poor Harvey Weinstein claiming he is a victim. |
| I didn't watch it. Can't say that this surprises me at all, though. Most of them are too vacuous to see their own hypocrisy. The less I hear them speak, the more I enjoy their artistic endeavors. |
| I have to say I agree that it's disconcerting that Tonya Harding had the movie named after her when it's Nancy who had her dream demolished. Did anybody invite her? |
| Hollywood loves a good redemption story, and it's been 25 years, so maybe it's time to forgive? Also, unless you've been living under a rock Harding was abused too, so how about a little compassion there. |
Sorry - No. I grew up poor and suffered abuse and neglect and I knew not to go around clubbing girls with a metal pipe. She can redeem herself by volunteering at homeless shelters not being praised at an award ceremony by a bunch of hypocrites. |
| Were they clapping for the movie about Tonya Harding (which was great, btw) or the actual person Tonya Harding? |
No she didn't. She went to the Olympics. The fact that she didn't get the gold was due to someone else beating her, outpeforming her. Nothing else. She actually wasn't a particularly great person either, if you'll recall. (I'm assuming you're old enough to remember her behaviour post-medal). She also had an affair with and then married her manager. |
| They were clapping because she was brave enough to share her story with the world. I also thought it was strange. |
Actual person; she was there. |
She attended and so yes, they clapped for her, in addition to the movie. I was under the impression that the movie was from her point of view where she claims she had nothing to do with the clubbing. Is that not true? |
1. How do you know the injury didn't affect her performance? 2. Are you serious? How about someone commits a violent act of injury on you which significantly and publicly affects your career, and X number of years later they make a movie about, named after, and glamorizing one of your attackers? You effing idiot. |
WOW. thank you for reminding me that I did the right thing to not watch it. Just goes to show how they praise the perpetrator every time, sick! |
+100. She got clubbed in the knee but a bunch of trailer trash and then had to publicly recover. I don't give two chits about her post-medal behavior; her mental state during the competition had to be affected by what happened. Agree 100% w/PP... we will never how she would have performed had she not been attacked. Tonya Harding and her ilk are disgusting excuses for human beings. Those Hollyweirdos tried to make about abuse as it relates to classicism, etc... There are plenty of people who came from poor backgrounds that went on to great things and not club people in the knee. |

Eh, I don't believe that she really believed that an attack would happen. There is a difference between having thoughts and carrying them out and she likely felt those guys were in the same camp as her - entertained the thoughts but would not actually ever do it.
I think her poor performance at the Olympics probably had to do with guilt surrounding the whole issue. As far as never apologizing to Nancy, likely a legal issue and she was advised not to. The whole situation is sad but I hope she can now just move on with her life. |
She had no guilt. Like an alcoholic- blames everyone else for troubles. She was jealous of Nancy so she felt Nancy deserved it. Hollywood clapping for her and profiting off a movie coming her distorted view is sick. |
