Capitol Hill Safety Schools?

Anonymous
We're in bounds for Peabody and will most likely be listing it in our top 3 or so, but are there really any Capitol Hill safety schools anymore? It looks to me like pretty much all the Hill schools wait-listed inbound students last year. I suppose a couple may have made it through the top of the waitlist to oob students, but it is still a little disappointing how unlikely it may be to get into pk3 in our neighborhood. Luckily, we do like our private daycare and will just stay there if we have to. I guess I'm just curious what others on the Hill are doing/listing. We are prioritizing commute so really want something nearby.

Aren't you on MOTH?

Yes, and it is mostly people trying to sell something, looking for a nanny, or someone to join a nanny share. I've seen very little in the way of pk3 discussion.

Not sure where on the Hill you live, but IB for Peabody and we listed (not in this order):

SWS
Cap Hill Montessori
Two Rivers 4th
Miner
Payne
Apple Tree Lincoln Park
Ludlow Taylor
JO

And did the LAMB lottery (which is separate)

Thanks for the info. I'm curious why LAMB and not some other charter schools since you still have available spots?

This was my list from a few years ago. It also had Peabody (which you will list), Maury and Brent (which you have zero chance of getting in for) and Mundo Verde (which I forgot about until just now).

LAMB is a totally separate lottery so it doesn’t use one of your 12 spots.

You should apply to 2Rivers Young, as well.

You can add Tyler.

You could try Langley if you don't mind the drive, but even that is not 100% safe anymore.

Safeties don’t exist unless you’re willing to travel off the Hill.

Plenty of seats in Brookland or EOTR. Most DCPS ECE is fine.

Ugh, inbounds for Peabody that is not going to be a pleasant drive at all. Unless you work in Shaw or something? But to go up to Eckington and then back down somewhere for work .. not going to be super fun.

How hard is it to get financial aid at Cap Hill Day School? Anyone think we have a good shot at 50% tuition with a HHI of $145 K?

If we don’t get Brent or FA at CHDS we will likely move to a 2 bedroom condo WOTP so we can send our son to J/L/Mu/Hearst with feeder rights to Deal/Wilson. We love the Hill but don’t have confidence in the schools.

I find everything about your post awful. 50% FA on that salary? That sounds pretty entitled.

There are other excellent elementary schools on the Hill. What I think you don't have confidence in is the level of whiteness - with a small sprinkling of asian and black - of schools other than Brent. Please move off the Hill.
