Capitol Hill Safety Schools?

If we don’t get Brent or FA at CHDS we will likely move to a 2 bedroom condo WOTP so we can send our son to J/L/Mu/Hearst with feeder rights to Deal/Wilson. We love the Hill but don’t have confidence in the schools.

Suit yourself. We like the Hill and are having a great experience at our non-Brent school. Maybe you ought to give it a try and readjust your thinking about schools, money and prestige. As you know $145k doesn't actually get you that far in DC but if you like your life on the Hill there is absolutely no reason to be so anxious about your 3 year old.

Shit we have HHI way less than that. If they can get 50% maybe we could get 100%!

Rumor has it that Brent has another sibling heavy PS3 class coming in. Not sure if it will be as bad was a few years ago but it seems likely that only a handful (if any) non-siblings get off the list.

I disagree on readjusting thinking -- PP SHOULD move. Self-superior PP will either be half-sassed committed with one foot out the door or a PIA for the school. Just leave

This is such a weird post. Are you in-bounds for Brent? If so, you'll get in for K at the latest. If not, you won't get in, but there are other very good schools all across the Hill for which you may be in-bounds (Maury, Peabody, etc.) or for which you can enter the lottery (SWS, CHML).

If you are looking for PK3, it's not like you'll have that at any of the schools WOTP, so why no wait until your kid can go to Brent?

I had the same thought. Our HHI is $100k for a family of 4. We live inbounds for a terrible school. Maybe I should try FA for private??

Sure - but you've gotta bring something to the table the private schools want. Will your children bring demographic diversity to an elementary school or sports skills or artistic talent to a middle high school?

Also the deadlines are past for fall 2018.

Definitely try if your kid tests well and is social you will get a lot of aid. If the family is making under $100K good chance you can get 75% of tuition from the school in Flat out Aid! They want to have socioeconomic diversity.

NP here - what about schools like Payne and Tyler? How are they doing? Why not include those in your list?

You understand that unless you have are IB and have sibling enrolled you will not get into Janney until K.

SWS
Cap Hill Montessori
Two Rivers 4th
Miner
Payne
Apple Tree Lincoln Park
Ludlow Taylor
JO

And did the LAMB lottery (which is separate)

Backing up to this post, because I’ve been in your shoes two years in a row. If your master number is so low that you don’t get into Peabody IB, then you almost certainly will not get into the other DCPS on your list either (none of those have more than a handful of OB spots). You may get into ATLP but it is not a safety so don’t count on it. You need to add Tyler, AT SW and AT OK, if you want to be reasonably confident of getting in somewhere.

Black kid, gay parents. I'm guessing yes for diversity.

Ugh, inbounds for Peabody that is not going to be a pleasant drive at all. Unless you work in Shaw or something? But to go up to Eckington and then back down somewhere for work .. not going to be super fun.

You would be surprised how many people work in Eckington or Noma. The ATF building is there and CFPB and DOJ have office space as well.

Those were on our list when we did the lottery years ago. But did you read the first post? If this person really thinks it's Brent, CHDS, or nothing, I'm guessing she has no interest in Payne or Tyler.
