I’ll start: I was very impressed by Wisconsin. We started in Milwaukee, a super underrated city. Good food and beer. Then headed to Madison which is a cool college town. Finally we went to Door County which reminded me of Cape Cod. Super nice people too.
I am not a fan of New Jersey at all. |
|
I never need to return to OK or IN.
My favorite states are probably shared by many: CO, VT, ME, OR, to name a few. |
|
Faves: CA, WA, NY, All of New England minus CT
Hates: Jersey, PA, FL, all in the middle |
How can a state with so many people have no nice cities?! I love how some Canadians assume Hartford is cool because it once had a hockey team. |
|
I went to UW-Madison and love Madison! The surrounding area is very pretty too. My best friend is from Milwaukee and it’s definitely underrated.
Its hard for me to name favourite and least favourite states because I like cities and the state might be meh, but might have a cool city (e.g. PA, kinda meh, but I like Philly). But if I had to name some that I’ve been to: Favourites: Washington, Oregon, Montana Least favourite: Ohio, Indiana and North Dakota |
|
I’ve been to 46 states. Most don’t stand out much. But I:
Like: MA, VT, MI, IL, MN (and MD of course) Don’t like: PA, MS, KY |
+1 Lots of examples Chicago Charleston, SC New Orleans |
|
Favorite by a long shot: Texas.
Followed by Hawaii and a distant third, Virginia. The states I would love to live in if only I had civilization within a 45 minute drive: Montana and South Dakota. The expansiveness and beauty of Montana just takes your breath away. I have a love/hate relationship with California. There are so many beautiful parts about it, such incredible natural beauty, and so many awful policies that have run that state into the ground. Oklahoma and New Mexico are probably my least favorite states, followed by northern Louisiana and parts of Alabama. |
I have been to every state except for Arkansas, North Dakota, Vermont, South Carolina, Oregon and of course, Alaska. |
|
California
Hawaii Maine Washington |
|
Love Texas (my favorite by far), North Carolina, and California.
Like South Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts, Vermont, Florida, New Jersey, Arizona, and New York. Dislike the Deep South generally, haven't seen many other states. Cities I love but not necessarily the states they're within: New Orleans, Chicago. |
| Do not like CT or AZ. |
|
Like CT, VT, CA
Dislike KY, TX |

Vermont is gorgeous, as is Maine.
Hawaii of course is incredible. I just wish it weren’t so far away because I’d love to visit more. Love everything about Washington and Oregon. North Carolina is one of my favorite states. Mountains on one end, fantastic beaches on the other, and thriving, economically booming areas like the Research triangle in the middle. Love it. I LOVE upstate New York. The Finger Lakes area is like heaven to me. I have much less nice things to say about downstate. I’ve only been to the Twin Cities of MN but came away thoroughly impressed. Florida has some of the ugliest areas in the country (most of the Orlando area/Central FL...omg I can’t) but the the SW area (Marco, Naples, Ft Myers) is probably my favorite vacation spot in the country so I guess it’s a wash. Connecticut has some fantastic towns but obviously the state is in crisis mode and I’m not sure what’ll come of it. Iowa has some of the most lovely people I’ve ever met but man is it boring. Corn, corn, and more corn. Same with Indiana but there is a different vibe between IA and IN. Idk what exactly it is but I like Iowa’s vibe way better. New Jersey aside from the shore is so damn ugly to me. It just feels like one big suburb to me (well, probably because it kind of is) and the people are just not my type. I’ve yet to find a redeeming quality about Ohio. I don’t like PA except for Pittsburgh and Philly. California is naturally gorgeous but it is way, way too expensive, too crowded, and the air quality is terrible. Again, terrible policies that have turned a great state into one with major issues. Illinois is a debt ridden shit hole that’s been run to the ground by terrible policies and fiscal mismanagement. Shame. It’s where I’m from, but I’d never move back. Outside of Chicago there is not much to the state. |
