Most of the states are pretty nice, especially if you no where to look. I am surprised at so much hatred on this thread! |
I agree. I’ve been to 40 states and out of everywhere I’ve visited I can think of really nice parts and less nice parts. I would never dismiss a whole state like so many people on this thread are. |
| States are too big to hate. There are aspects of every state that I love and aspects that are not that great. |

Faves ..Vermont, Maine, Texas , MD, Florida, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington , Idaho , Wisconsin.
Can't stand NJ, NY, Mass, Illinois, |
I'm from NJ & now live in VA. I like both of these states
Loves as a tourist on vacation: ME, CA, HI, CO |
|
I love PA and SC!
Did not like Indiana. |
I'm at 40 also. There are some states that are mostly unpleasant and have some places that are pleasant enough. It's hard to justify going to those places when life is short and there are so many spectacular places on this planet. |

NJ resident here.
The state is so much more than the Turnpike, strip malls, and Newark airport. I agree that those parts of the state are pretty ugly, but some of the beaches are gorgeous and the northwestern part of the state has a lot of nice forests and hiking trails. Also, some of the best pizza and bagels in the country can be found in NJ! |
| As someone who has spent a great deal of time in Indiana, I am not surprised that people dislike it. |
+1 |
Beaches and food, yes. Who cares about the NW part of the state when the outdoor opportunities in neighboring NY are 20x better? |
|
I absolutely loathe North Carolina. Probably would feel the same way about South Caroline but never had the misfortune of living in the lesser Carolina.
Used to love Wisconsin; sad to see how it's been systematically ruined. Still love Minnesota. |

West Virginia is gorgeous and highly under rated.
Indiana and Ohio, UGH. Washington State, outside of the coast, is super weird too. |
| Been to all 50, love something about all 50. |
WV is 'underrated' because the scenery is all it has. |
