0. I have about $6500 to my name total. No debt, but no assets either.

Hahaha I'm definitely one of the poors on this board. I find DCUM to be depressing yet entertaining and enlightening at the same time.

people need to specify if it's one person or if you are combining the balance of a married couple.

I haven't checked in a few months, but based on previous balance, somewhere around $350K. Another $130K or so in a Roth IRA.

That's just my balance. I'm divorced. I will also have a federal pension fortunately. I'm working on increasing the amount I'm putting into my TSP each year.

DH has $620k.

And yet from the small sample size of 10 people (or households?) that have provided numbers here, it averages out to 418,900 per household, which I'd consider about "average" for 40 yr old professional, white collar households in the northeast/large metro areas. (I'm not saying it's the actual average for 40 yr olds nationwide -- that's well out of 100k; but 400k is what you hear of being a "goal" number for my 40-ish yr old white collar peers in NYC and DC.) So while DCUM is ridiculous in some ways, if you don't put too much stock in the people who have to come brag about having $3m at age 31, the sum of the info is useful.
