Hahaha I'm definitely one of the poors on this board. I find DCUM to be depressing yet entertaining and enlightening at the same time.

+1

And yet from the small sample size of 10 people (or households?) that have provided numbers here, it averages out to 418,900 per household, which I'd consider about "average" for 40 yr old professional, white collar households in the northeast/large metro areas. (I'm not saying it's the actual average for 40 yr olds nationwide -- that's well out of 100k; but 400k is what you hear of being a "goal" number for my 40-ish yr old white collar peers in NYC and DC.) So while DCUM is ridiculous in some ways, if you don't put too much stock in the people who have to come brag about having $3m at age 31, the sum of the info is useful.

*well south of 100k for national averages

I'm at around $175k plus fed pension. Wish it were more but I am not that worried - I plan to retire to a very low COL place.

Well, sure, I’m the 130k poster from before. DH’s 401k is 500k plus, but not relying on him to be around in my golden days, ya know?

I’m married. But that figure is my retirement accounts. My husband will have a string pension so never saves much outside of it. My pension is a newer one which came along with my current job.

$170k and I am 37 as of a few days ago. Wife is probably in the $50k range or so. Got a late start, and did no max out right at the beginning. Professional school can be a killer in this regard. This year has been great though.
