Hello,
My son would be taking cogat in Mar ( Loudoun county). COuld you please let me know where to get the prep material for the test? Thanks |
| No. |
| Nope. |
| OP, the tests are designed to be take. Without prepping. And often prepping is obvious. |
| and so it begins |
| Find books in Lotte stores, Amazon.com. |
| Now I feel like a dumb parent... my son took cogat this fall without prepping waiting on results makes me nervous. Looks like everyone prepare their kids. |
They don't. |
Talk to your child's teacher. The teacher will know the right books and materials you should buy. |
Hell to the no on this. I promise you your child’s teacher doesn’t know what books to get to prep a kid for the CoGAT. —FCPS teacher |
Read a lot. No point in “prepping” for a test like this. |
Do a google search. There are several books on Amazon. Like most of the posters said, prepping will not make much of a difference. Where it does make a difference is in getting your child familiar with the types of questions to expect, the format of the test, etc. Any improvement in test scores are probably because your kid is now familiar with the testing process and what to expect. I know the teachers introduce the kids to the format, etc but that's barely enough. |
Be careful. Teachers do ask kids if they've seen questions or prepared at home. Kids at this age don't or can't lie no matter what. A couple of kids in our class responded positively to those questions and the teacher made a note of that. I don't know if that'll be in their record but you don't want the score to be invalid because teacher thinks he/she prepared at home. |
Why wouldn't a teacher know what a child should be doing to get ready for a test? The child's teacher would know the child and have an idea what might be worthwhile for that particular child. |
| You're not suppose to game the system and surely the teachers shouldn't be working to skew the results for some students and not others. |
