So, a bunch of Trumpers?

Are you sure? I have seen a few of them, def not Trumpers. I still didn’t sign the petition, but wanted to after last week’s events with Omeish and last board meeting. Wish I could do it online though

Are you confusing OpenFCPS with FIghtForSchools which is Loudoun County?
Trump supporter or not is a matter of debate, but the Loudoun group is a Republican operation.

Another LCPS school board meeting today. I don't think VMPI is on the agenda, but there will be lots of commenters complaining about critical race theory, and a school board recall of 6 members is being pursued.

I don't know very many Trump supporters but I know many people who are concerned about this proposed math curriculum change and critical race theory. On education, the national political preferences seem less relevant here. Just my experience.

Notes from tonight’s meeting:

They are still in “building” phase - proposal won’t be presented until 2022

First draft to BOE 2022
Crosswalk 2024-25
Full implementation 2025-26

Pilots for some new classes start in 2023

School systems can build own courses and allow students to take in any grade (accelerated path) — **this has always been the case**

They blocked out grade levels from infographic to avoid confusion

ALL upper level classes are still offered
Will support AP and IB as do now

Foundational Concepts <<<< K-7
Essential Concepts I-II-III <<<< 8-A-G-A

Precalculus <<<< Mathematical Analysis
Added Data Science II to the list

Rest of world thinks it’s weird to break out A-G-A; better to connect concepts

Example path of accelerated student (just an example - districts are not restricted to this):

This is a lie. Someone posted the e-mail they got from Tina. She wanted to eliminate tracking.
They claim algebra 2 is in their Math 10, now essential concepts III, but this is not the case as can be seen from the Jay Mathews article.
I-II-III they said in the video lumps in pre-algebra.

Go watch the video. That’s the current position straight from their mouths. Not some random, unverified email from how long ago?

They are providing talking points to mollify angry parents and teachers.
They have revealed the reality earlier.
I asked if they intended to have the kids who couldn't qualify for algebra in middle school now take a harder curriculum. No response.
Yet this is what is suggested by their putting algebra 2 in math 10, when before it would have been only geometry for the weakest students.
These are dumbed down courses with lots of additional material in other subjects they consider more important.

I will see if LCPS makes any changes and implements acceleration. So far they have not done so, and this year's 6th graders will be the last 6th graders to take algebra in 6th grade, this year's 5th graders will be the last to take algebra in 7th grade(or even 8th grade).

Yes it's the current position they are saying now. A few months ago they had a different current position that came straight from their mouths and could be seen on the video.
At least they have stated that acceleration and advancement are available for school districts.
Makes it slightly harder for them to change their position again.
I think the previously revealed position is the one they want and will continue to try for. Perhaps more behind the scenes.

So you think there is some kind of conspiracy theory? GMAFB.

It will almost certainly go through because too many parents are disillusion regarding their kids abilities and their kids never learn the basics of math and this becomes evident in high school.

This. Every year there are more and more kids in remedial math their first year of college.

That won't be helped by having less kids able to take advanced math.
A lot of the remedial math is kids unable to do fractions or algebra.

Schools systems can offer classes to provide just as many advanced math classes as they do today. Stop spreading misinformation.
