I couldn't stop myself. That "snippet" read like a text I'd send my husband or something. Not an excerpt from a memoir. And if she's mad at the mother handling the situation why tf is she calling the kid an asshole? Ugh. I didn't really dislike her until this.

I vaguely remember her talking about this on TKS a long time ago. If her kid was 3 at the time, it is clearly about MJ and a couple years ago. I'm definitely not dedicated enough to search through to find it but it would be interesting to see how she described the situation then.

Parental Dilemma. Today I encountered a little Jerk, like an actual mean little person (think Macauly Culkin in The Good Son). I watched the kid bully all the kids at the park. He was making horrible faces at them, yelling at them, pushing...just not a nice kid at all. I watched to see how MJ would handle herself and she did well, but after so much I could see she was intimidated (He was also much bigger and should have known better) She was getting ready to go down the slide, so of course he climbs up. He doesn't see that I am watching and proceeds to growl at my child and then spit directly on her. He KNEW exactly what he was doing. I didn't even know what to do, my pregnant emotions almost had me whoop somebody else's child. Had to talk myself of a ledge. What are we supposed to do in those situations, especially when mom was a little too nonchalant about her bad ass kid. What's really sad is the brother was a sweetheart, he played with MJ, helped her etc. Maybe the kid needs attention but he SPIT on my baby! Today I learned I might not be above cussing a little kid out- I didn't, of course, but I see how it's possible.

This story is much different than the snippet she presented. Plus, Baby DC was born in the fall-late October or early November. This happened in May. She wasn't 'big pregnant' at the time. She still had at least 5 1/2 months to go of pregnancy. The hormones are real-and I don't doubt she was upset and emotional. But it sounds like she is now embellishing the story quite a bit. Which is a shame. The original anecdote I can relate to. The 'snippet' not so much.

Megan Hutchins: I think it comes off bad because 1. You said it was humorous to you. I know if someone spit in my child's face, God knows I wouldn't find it humorous. 2. It comes off as shaming the family. Not saying you are, I'm saying it comes off that way. I just don't think you can judge a family's dynamic without knowing what is happening behind the scenes. Clearly, the mother didn't respond in a way she should've, but who knows what was going through her mind. Maybe the child was having a really really bad day? Who knows? No one does.
