Yeah, I never get the criticism here. Any show, any book, any movie, any music we listen to it’s all about people figuring their crap out.

“ I’ve been in therapy for years and I’m finally figuring out how to own my own stuff and not rely on other people to meet needs I am responsible for meeting on my own” is great in real life but we want to see that journey not just hear about the destination.

This is not a People magazine cover story. It’s an album.

If people want to like her for her pettiness and vengefulness, I get that. I’m glad some of her fans are owning up to that because they used to berate/insult anyone who called her that. I guess they are maturing? I DO have a problem with someone who is consistently punching down and using vengeance as a platform being called a “good role model” for young girls. I can only see that being a plus if you want to perpetuate mean girl culture.

Anything Taylor does would be seen as punching down. She’s helped many of these young artists and they turn around and crap on her but somehow Taylor’s the one who’s not the girls girl.

What young artists has she helped because she’s a girls girl? She helped Sabrina because she was threatened by Olivia Rodrigo. Threatened by Billie Eilish. Obviously Katy Perry thing(who sucks so whatever).

She did help Charli, and look what it got her.

Taylor didn’t ask Charli to open for her tour just out of the goodness of her heart and because she is a girls’ girl. It’s more likely she did it because she was chasing after Matt Healy and trying to stay in his orbit. Same thing with Phoebe Bridgers, who is also a close friend of The 1975 and featured in their videos.

“What if I told you none of it was accidental? I laid the groundwork…and now you’re mine” - TS in late 2022. She was done with Joe by then and rather pleased with herself for having won her tortured poet with her mastermind moves.

This album sucks because her phony corny over-exposed and over-choreographed life sucks. She knows it and everyone outside of the wacky parasocial fans living through her knows it. Travis is not interesting, dreamy and inspiring, he's grotesque and dumber than a rock. He's not even good at football anymore, he's a washed up has-been and his team will likely miss the playoffs this season (likely his final season). She can put out a hundred songs about being addicted to his penis, nobody is buying it because the music she's putting out has no passion; her creative juices ain't flowing, that much is clear.

She has always tried to surround herself with edgy art scene creatives and Euros and tries to masquerade as this creative erudite poet. To pretend she's content with some idiot American football jock and his flyover prole family is laughable. That's why every time she's with him, his family, and/or his social circle she's got booze in her hand. She's miserable af.

I agree with your assessment of her but actually think she's happy with Travis. Because that's who she really is. She's a basic b who just wants a big rich football bro to give her a honking diamond ring and treat her like a princess. This is also what most Taylor fans want for themselves.

Remember that Taylor was a heavily manufactured Nashville product -- it's not like she came up as an edgy artist. She's always chased trends and "edgy indie singer-songwriter" was one for her. It dovetailed with her Matty and Joe Alwyn relationships, and Taylor is the sort of person who is good at winning people over. But that's just not who she is.

She's a Midwestern UMC daddy's girl who wants the whitebred American ideal. Anything seemingly edgy about her was purchased, it's not authentic to her.

Comments like these is why people think some of you are in a cult of personality.Whi the hell are these young artists she's supposedly helped ??? I swear some of you aren't capable of embarrassment .

I’m the person you’re quoting here and I’m actually not some massive Taylor fan but ok if you don’t think Taylor hasn’t helped, or tried to help, young artists.

Two comments from you on Taylor supposedly helping young artists and, inexplicably, you can't name ONE single artist she has 'helped'.

I'm from PA and most of it is the Midwest culturally. Like, "rust belt" okay, but most of PA has way more in common with Ohio than NY or Boston or DC. Like basically everything except Philly and very close in burbs. I don't know which part Taylor is from.

But didn't her family move to Nashville anyway? I thought she was way more connected to that area than where she was born in PA.

She doesn't help other artists. She uses them for clout. Sometimes she'll "share the spotlight" with artists like Ice spice or Lana del Ray, but she's not investing in their careers or putting them front and center. It's Taylor's world and she's always queen bee.

Why is investing in someone's career required for "helping"? She isn't a record label. She doesn't have a stable of musicians that she's promoting - it's not her job. Just standing on the same stage as Taylor Swift raises interest and internet traffic in an artist's brand - which is helpful for every artist that does it.

I can tell you would reject my list because we clearly have different interpretations of what helping other artists looks like and that’s fine.

I think people see her as being too manufactured and a brand constantly after cash. There is nothing wrong with being a business woman, but of course people are going to side eye you when you sell 28 variations of the same album and constantly push out albums. She is also just very overexposed as though she is afraid the public is going to forget her if she takes too much time off and she doesn’t need to do that. Her female peers who are at the same level of fame don’t release music half as often as she does.

Well, people bought the album before they HEARD the album...If you think that means the album is successful, okay.

I don’t know, I feel like Fate of Ophelia is a banger. I’m really enjoying that song.

The album seems to be doing well….good for her? I don’t get the controversy. I consider myself a fan, but I spend way, way, way less time thinking about Taylor than some of you haters do.

Criticizing Taylor's work is always fair game. That's how art work. It doesn't matter what else you do -- many artists have done a ton of charitable work or are just very exceptionally good people, and they will still get critical reviews (by professional critics and by regular people) because that's the gig. You have the privilege of sharing your artistic work with the world, and letting them receive it as they will.

The random criticism of her relationships or just hating on the way she looks or just vague attacks on her being washed up or middle aged or fake or whatever... some of that is mean girl behavior but it's easy to ignore.

But criticizing her music or her videos or her dancing or the concept of her album? That's always fair game.

Disappointed in this album. She comes off as an insecure mean girl and unconscious racist.

DP. I thought I was the only one who noticed the latter but a lot of people on Reddit and X said the same thing. I think it’s probably normal for her to feel a bit insecure when her fiancé has ever only been publicly linked to black women. The savage reference is particularly weird because Megan Thee stallion allegedly rejected him.

People on reddit and Twitter always think everything is racist. There's a line about an onyx sky or something and they think it's racist against his ex.

Except she directly references the ex in the same song. And said herself that it’s about when relationships don’t work out.

https://www.glamour.com/story/taylor-swifts-opalite-lyrics-decoded

She's talking about times were dark with that girl, and now they have created happiness. She surely does not mean to literally say "your ex was dark skinned and now you have me, a white chick."

The word onyx and onyx imagery are much more linked to blackness than the word “dark” but nice try.

That is quite a reach.

Agreed. Um, she’s coming out of her tortured era (onyx) and everything is Opalite, Travis’s birthstone (+ his blue eye color is all over this album). That’s all.

How are you "tortured" when you have eight houses or more, house managers to buy everything the houses need, staff to make you food, drivers, pilots, a plane or two...Not seeing the torture.
