Why?

DP. It is good for the brain to shake things up a bit. Like taking a different route home from work is healthy for your brain.

Um, kids have been home since December 21. At this point school would be the change in routine needed to shake things up.

I’m predicting a 2 hr delay for Wednesday.

There will be 30 mph winds tomorrow... doubtful that they will open schools. Wednesday delay possible, but also could be canceled.

Capital weather gang has put out their school and fed cast but it’s behind a paywall.

DC is at 80% closure, everywhere else is 90-95% closure.

What do they say for Feds?

Fedcast: 75% of unscheduled leave, 40% chance of delayed opening or closure

In the past, this decision was heavily dependent on WMATA. Nowadays, I don't really know how they (OPM, CWG) make their decisions. Today was a DC snow emergency day. I don't know if tomorrow is?

Tuesday and Wednesday will be off, Thursday maybe 2 hours delay. Don’t look at only your front street. The decision is not made by that, they look at the 400 square mile of Fairfax county, plus surounding city as alot of employees living outside the boundaries.

And no need to compare it with “the place you used to live where kids barefoot to school in 1 foot of snow). You might compare small county in the middle of nowhere and only 3 schools, with a county of 200 schools and 200k students with the largest fleet buses in the US second to NY.

I know its inconvenient for some, and kids has been home for 2 weeks.
But this is the act of mothernature, we can’t control this.
So chill, enjoy your hot chocolate and hot ramen noodle while you watch your kids play snowball attack.

go with the flow and make the most of it, or be mad and complain.

2 day closure for sure. Have any of you been out? I did a 1.5 mile walk in my neighborhood. Sidewalks have 6+ inches on them and nothing is going to melt with a high of 27. It doesn’t matter if you think the layer band will be negligible, this amount of snow isn’t going to be cleared enough for school tomorrow.

I have. It's a crazy amount of snow for this part of the country. (I've lived other snowier states and I've been here 6 years and have seen nothing like this.) On the other hand, I've seen them shut everything down for a light dusting of snow in the afternoon.

If you've been here for 6 years than you have seen something like this. You don't sound trustworthy.

When in the last 6 years was their snow like this? Are you a contrarian bot?

What? When in the last 6 years have we had 5-6 inches of snow? I was living in Maryland last winter (between Baltimore and DC) and we had at least one 6 inches snow storm in mid January

We literally had maybe a half inch of snow that didn’t stick last year. I live in MoCo.
