FBI HQ in PG!

Don't care about where the HQ goes. With that said:

12) The beautiful historic Greenbelt with cafes, charming art deco movie palace, and co-op market.
13) Living in beautiful historic Greenbelt, with its charming walking paths surrounded by bucolic surroundings.

This was accurate until about 1985 or so.

a lot nicer looking/quieter than seedy and depressing Springfield.

Even if it gets built it will be 10-15-20 years. This is not happening right now lol it isn’t funded, no construction contracts yet, it won’t break ground for at least 1.5 even if everything goes smoothly

BIL works for FBI. He has lots of reasons to stay in Virginia- MDs gun laws, the other agencies he works with, his house, his wife’s job. All of his coworkers live in Virginia. A few single ones lived in DC. Considering most can’t telework it’s going to be long commutes for all and MD blocks the bridge expansions.

I'm honestly shocked that you think this would be a relevant factor in the decision about location.

I guess your brother-in-law will have to decide which he dislikes more, Maryland's gun laws or a long commute by car.

Why wouldn’t this be a relevant factor? Most employers would try to avoid losing good employees.

The HQ is moving from DC all the way to ... Greenbelt. 30 minutes by Metro.

Asking employees to devote an extra 5 hours per week to work is not insignificant.

Conversely, other employees will have shorter trips to work.

Some posters on DCUM seem oddly convinced that it's impossible for any reasonable person to live in Prince George's County.

Of course some will have shorter commutes. I don’t know where most FBI employees live but surveying them would provide that data.

don't think the higher ups care about where the employees live. That's not how it works, either in the public or private sector.

And it should not be forgotten that the FBI far outranks GSA in the hierarchy of Government. The FBI is much more important as an agency and its stated needs should take priority.

lol

Goodness some people need some education. It's not about where agencies are in the hierarchy. It's about their mission, responsibilities, and purpose. The FBI doesn't get to decide where the new HQ location is going to be. That's the bottom line. They may have an opinion but it's not their final say. Just like when school systems like MCPS or FCPS get to decide school boundaries when new schools are built. They survey the parents to obtain their opinions and preferences; and in fact they have a committee within the school system that makes recommendations, but at the end of the day, the superintendant makes the final decision.

You’ve clearly been posting a lot on this thread. You’re for the FBI in Greenbelt. Good for you. However, you might want to get your facts straight before posting negative comments about other places or things you clearly have no knowledge about.

I mean, yes, that is a consideration, both in the private and public sector.

DP. You mean like all the people who have never been to PG County, but who have no problems with spouting all of the historically racist but, now, inaccurate claims about PG County? Just look at this thread and you will see many comments from people who have never bene to PG County who talk about political corruption, the high crime rates , and poor schools. The political corruption has largely gone away since Rushern Baker was elected in 2010. Only the small portion inside the beltway still has crime out of line with other beltway counties, the parts outside the beltway have crime comparable to Montgomery and Fairfax counties. And the schools have been steadily improving for the last 10-15 years. This includes better magnet programs, several new schools opening up, improving test scores in most areas and more.

The Virginians are far worse about "posting negative comments about other places or hings you clarly have no knowledge about." So, pot, meet kettle.

not really. Higher ups don't really care that much about employee preferences when it comes to saving millions of dollars.

I work in the private sector.

I find the bolded to be true on this forum. They especially post a lot of negative comments about MoCo, and now their vitriol is directed towards PG because of the FBI move.

I'm originally from out west so not native to this area. But, I find the VA posters who do that quite unpleasant.

Sen. Cardin also admitted that he knew that MD was going to win all along.

That’s a ridiculous mischaracterization of what he said.
