List of Insta matriculation pages?

My DC is a recent graduate. Neither they nor their best friends (all top 5 schools) posted on Instagram. It is laughable to put any credibility to a self reported social media list.

Did they just get into lower-tier colleges?

Anyone's kid get into HYPSM and not post on Insta?

Interesting. A colleague told me today that their kid won’t post on their private schools insta bc he is embarrassed bc he thinks the school he accepted isn’t good enough compared to his friends.

We know of a couple, not HYPSM but T10 schools. Some kids are just very humble, private or empathetic (to those who haven't done as well). And there are probably some who don't post because they think they won't compare well to others. So it cuts both ways.

But when a large proportion of the graduating class posts (as is the case for some schools), that is a highly reliable data source. And a more informative data source than list of "acceptances" put out by schools, which essentially tell you very little unless there is also information on how many are going where.

Why did you have to add that? (nauseated)

None of my kids friends posted. Their friend group will attend Ivy league, top 20 and highly regarded flagships (UNC Chapel Hill, for example). They are simply not into social media. It didn't occur to me that people would think posting has any correlation with how excited they are about their schools.

I also hope the kids who are "embarrassed" about schools are quickly buoyed up by those they know IRL. I wish I knew these kids myself so I could say, "Congrats! You are going to college, it is up to you to make it awesome," and remind them there is practically no correlation with lifetime success and where one gets their degree. I went to a school you likely never heard of and it was a formative, fun and life-changing experience. I was damn proud that I graduated high school and enrolled in college, period (extra proud because I was first-gen, though back in the day, I didn't have the wisdom to be anything but embarrassed of that fact). High school graduates who are going on to college should be celebrated.

They declined due to money and they can afford private school tuition or get aid at private school but not college?

I think you’re having a discussion with someone who is being completely insincere, or even making things up completely

I'm reading this and am shocked that there are people who think kids don't turn down ivies for money. People who read this board truly live in a bubble.

Then it’s a good thing your kid does go to Exeter, you don’t have to submit your college decision as long as it’s in the public domain they report it😊.

NP. Child is at competitive private in California. The seniors have an IG account but only about 1/5th of the graduating class has posted to it, and of those only one of the kids into HYPS schools posted. It’s considered a bit tacky. Many of the kids didn’t wear their new school sweatshirts on May 1 either.

If you looked at the senior class graduation IG account you would think they didn’t send kids to the T20s when they send quite a few.

The schools are fine but not as impressive as one would think.

People who haven't been through the process recently are so naive. Your comments on this thread are so mind numbingly out of touch.
