Donnie Dumptruck says Mar-A-Lago's been searched by the FBI

You know what's backfiring bigly.. Trump signing the law increasing penalties for mishandling classified material as a dig at HRC.

How's that for delicious irony:

https://www.businessinsider.com/law-trump-signed-2018-may-punish-him-classified-info-2022-8

The bill, which made changes to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) was signed into law by Trump in January 2018

It upgraded the seriousness of wrongly moving classified material, turning it from a misdemeanor into a felony — and increasing the maximum punishment from one year to five.

Moss noted that it was passed in the wake of Trump's relentless attacks during the 2016 presidential campaign on Hillary Clinton for allegedly mishandling classified information.

But now it is Trump who is under pressure.

"Trump certainly has legal exposure to Section 1924 given it was classified documents from his spaces in the White House that were removed to Mar-Lago," said Moss.

Such a title would never fly on DCUM if something similar were written about Biden. It would be deleted in a hot second.

DP. I don't love it. But Jeff's reasoning isn't wrong.

Jeff’s reasoning is because Trump did it, it’s fine. That’s terrible reasoning for the people who crowed about Trump’s bad precedents. Now you’re taking these so-called bad precedents and making them kosher. Kind of hilarious actually. I guess it wasn’t THAT bad after all!

Actually, it's Trump supporters like you who made them kosher. But it's too late to start squealing now when it's turned around and used against your idols.

This is funny since Biden has his own history of name-calling.

"Damn liar"
"Lyin' dog face pony $oldier"
"Full of $hit"
"$tupid $on of a b**ch."
"Clown"

And, these names were directed not at politicians... but at voters and the media.

That's not the same as Trump's nicknames that he puts out on blast by Twitter (oh yeah, he got banned from that platform, too) where his bot followers can repeat ad infinitum.

But my. God.

How can the slightly more sane of you republicans look at yourselves and say - yup - when the FBI was investigating Hillary’s email, that was correct to do and in fact we are sure she should be locked up for her ‘crimes’.

But a few years later, AFTER 4 YEARS OF A TRUMP PRESIDENCY AND TRUMP APPOINTING THE HEAD OF FBI WHO CONTINUES TO THIS DAY, the FBI is now a corrupt wing of the Democratic Party?

Get ahold of yourselves

Oh, FFS. Did the FBI do a pre-dawn raid to search for those emails that Hillary wiped from her server? For that matter, did they do a pre-dawn, long guns drawn raid to even find the server?
Yes - there are still way too many agents at the FBI who are corrupt to the core. Wray has done nothing to rein in the rogue agents.
This raid was so unwarranted and will come back to bite the Dems in the butt. Mark my words.

This wasn’t a “raid.”

I see we are now redefining "raid."

Merriam Webster:

raid noun

: a sudden invasion by officers of the law

Britannica"

raid

to enter (a place) suddenly in a forceful way in order to look for someone or something

Yes, it was a raid. And, yes, we are in a recession.

Clearly you’ve never actually seen a raid even in the movies? There is no warning, it can happen at 4 o’clock in the am, while you are in your jammys. They no knock and bust down the door swoop in, tear stuff up, and take it all, file cabinets, phones, laptops, cars, the family dog, seize, freeze your civil forfeit your assets….pretty much whatever they damn well want to do and then they take their sweet time going through it all and give it back when and if they feel like it.

This wasn’t a raid although I think it’s safe to assume one may be in the works. The wheels are turning slowly and methodically down in the basement. The US govt. isn’t to be trifled with.

Federal agents generally must “knock and announce” before securing entry to a premises pursuant to a warrant, unless there is an imminent threat of violence endangering agents or a third party. And warrants are typically executed in the early morning hours, not 4 am. Federal agents are highly professional in conducting a search. They don’t “toss” your home like you see on TV dramas.

Pulling up to a secured compound and coordinating with Secret Service agents and MaL staff to access areas where the items described in the warrant are likely to be located. They take only the items set forth in the warrant unless there is some other evidence of criminal activity in “plain view.” They don’t randomly take your dog or car unless the magistrate has authorized the siezure. In other words, if the warrant authorizes the siezure of specified documents, the FBI can’t take the $500,000 in unmarked bills also found in the safe for forfeiture or the nude photos of Alex Jones’s wife.

There was intent. That's why the FBI had to get involved.

I seriously doubt that. People who spout GOP talking points will say this because it’s a GOP talking point, but everyone else finds it 100% believable that the FBI had probable cause for a search warrant.

+1 anyone along for this ride was already on the ride

you all said the same about jan 6 hearings, too, remember? and it does not look like this point by point laying out of don the con's attempted coup is having that effect there, either.

Not all crimes require mens rea, but there’s little question of presumed intent to retain what can be assumed to be classified materials at an unauthorized location (a basement storage room is not a SCIF) given that the materials were not returned months ago.

Were you around for the last 5 1/2 years, lol?

He took the documents because:

A) They contain secrets that are valuable to foreign entities and he could sell/trade the information
B) They are of some value and could be sold on the black market to collectors
C) They contain incriminating information that Trump either wants to bury or wants to use to blackmail someone else
D) They contain evidence of some of his most embarrassing episodes that he would like people to forget
E) He wants them for his own personal collection
F) He just feels entitled

Nobody stopped him for the same reasons that he wasn’t removed from office. The same reasons he could do things like forcefully removing peaceful protesters for a photo op or separating children from their parents at the border without any plan for reunification or taking a joyride around Walter Reed in a confined space with Secret Service agents while suffering from a raging case of OG Covid or not not releasing his taxes or violating the emoluments clause every which way…the list is endless.

There's a PP who is adamant that it was the GSA without Trump's knowledge that boxed up top secret files and sent it to his home.

+1 I posted up thread.. he still thinks he's the @real POTUS so, why wouldn't he feel entitled to take them? He still uses the Presidential seal; he insists he won. He's 100% delusional, and now a criminal by his own law he signed.

Trump learned his tradecraft from Roy Cohn. He perceived the documents to have value for whatever reason. There were no institutional safeguards to prevent Trump or his aides from removing documents from the Oval or SCIF. Nobody could keep track of documents. They were eaten. They were flushed. They were torn up. And some were boxed up and shipped to Florida. It’s not like servile COS Mark Meadows was going to do anything. Elect a clown, expect a circus.

Presumably this is the reason TFG is legally barred from releasing the warrant and itemization of documents siezed.

Says who? He can release the warrant.

It’s always someone else’s fault in Trumplandia.
