You know what's backfiring bigly.. Trump signing the law increasing penalties for mishandling classified material as a dig at HRC. How's that for delicious irony: https://www.businessinsider.com/law-trump-signed-2018-may-punish-him-classified-info-2022-8

That's not the same as Trump's nicknames that he puts out on blast by Twitter (oh yeah, he got banned from that platform, too) where his bot followers can repeat ad infinitum. |
| Remember, there is no crime if there was no intent. |
Federal agents generally must “knock and announce” before securing entry to a premises pursuant to a warrant, unless there is an imminent threat of violence endangering agents or a third party. And warrants are typically executed in the early morning hours, not 4 am. Federal agents are highly professional in conducting a search. They don’t “toss” your home like you see on TV dramas. Pulling up to a secured compound and coordinating with Secret Service agents and MaL staff to access areas where the items described in the warrant are likely to be located. They take only the items set forth in the warrant unless there is some other evidence of criminal activity in “plain view.” They don’t randomly take your dog or car unless the magistrate has authorized the siezure. In other words, if the warrant authorizes the siezure of specified documents, the FBI can’t take the $500,000 in unmarked bills also found in the safe for forfeiture or the nude photos of Alex Jones’s wife. |
There was intent. That's why the FBI had to get involved. |
+1 anyone along for this ride was already on the ride you all said the same about jan 6 hearings, too, remember? and it does not look like this point by point laying out of don the con's attempted coup is having that effect there, either. |
who's ever been able to stop him from doing anything? his whole life is about taking whatever he wants, with no consequences. |
Not all crimes require mens rea, but there’s little question of presumed intent to retain what can be assumed to be classified materials at an unauthorized location (a basement storage room is not a SCIF) given that the materials were not returned months ago. |
Were you around for the last 5 1/2 years, lol? He took the documents because: A) They contain secrets that are valuable to foreign entities and he could sell/trade the information B) They are of some value and could be sold on the black market to collectors C) They contain incriminating information that Trump either wants to bury or wants to use to blackmail someone else D) They contain evidence of some of his most embarrassing episodes that he would like people to forget E) He wants them for his own personal collection F) He just feels entitled Nobody stopped him for the same reasons that he wasn’t removed from office. The same reasons he could do things like forcefully removing peaceful protesters for a photo op or separating children from their parents at the border without any plan for reunification or taking a joyride around Walter Reed in a confined space with Secret Service agents while suffering from a raging case of OG Covid or not not releasing his taxes or violating the emoluments clause every which way…the list is endless. |
There's a PP who is adamant that it was the GSA without Trump's knowledge that boxed up top secret files and sent it to his home. |
+1 I posted up thread.. he still thinks he's the @real POTUS so, why wouldn't he feel entitled to take them? He still uses the Presidential seal; he insists he won. He's 100% delusional, and now a criminal by his own law he signed. |
that person's brain is made of cottage cheese, no offense to dairy products it would be nice to have a little corner of dcum where people whose brains are made of brain could talk to each other. |
Trump learned his tradecraft from Roy Cohn. He perceived the documents to have value for whatever reason. There were no institutional safeguards to prevent Trump or his aides from removing documents from the Oval or SCIF. Nobody could keep track of documents. They were eaten. They were flushed. They were torn up. And some were boxed up and shipped to Florida. It’s not like servile COS Mark Meadows was going to do anything. Elect a clown, expect a circus. |
Says who? He can release the warrant. |
It’s always someone else’s fault in Trumplandia. |
