A search warrant is an order issued by a federal magistrate judge based on a showing of probable cause that evidence of a specified crime is likely to be found. The USSS had no discretion once the warrant was verified.

"Probable cause."
This whole thing takes me back to the FISA warrants.... sought by the FBI...... that nearly all those who signed said they wouldn't have signed off on them if they had known the truth.

Sorry, the FBI does not have a good track record in this kind of thing.

The fact that Garland has not issued a statement is concerning. This will taint our DOJ even further. And, rightly so.

Are you kidding? They had probable cause, which you are correct in realizing means that they *think* they'll find evidence but could be wrong, and in this instance they were correct because they did find 10 (additional) boxes of unauthorized classified documents.

What is the problem here? Besides Trump having all these classified documents that he shouldn't have had and refused to give back?

Can’t the president declassify anything he wants?

Am I supposed to believe that the residence of a former president, under Secretary Service protection, has such lax security that this is possible?

Good point. This is so ridiculous...

They don’t plant 10 boxes. They only need what was in their backpacks.

So the argument is that there were 10 (in addition to the previous 15) boxes of unauthorized classified documents at Mar A Lago but that FBI agents planted some documents from their backpacks?

Have you gotten too much sun?

What do you think were in those boxes? LOL

Reportedly intelligence documents classified such that their contents/existence cannot be disclosed. Presumably this is the reason TFG is legally barred from releasing the warrant and itemization of documents siezed.

Such a title would never fly on DCUM if something similar were written about Biden. It would be deleted in a hot second.

DP. I don't love it. But Jeff's reasoning isn't wrong.

Jeff’s reasoning is because Trump did it, it’s fine. That’s terrible reasoning for the people who crowed about Trump’s bad precedents. Now you’re taking these so-called bad precedents and making them kosher. Kind of hilarious actually. I guess it wasn’t THAT bad after all!

Your dude crimmed all over the place for decades. That's on you for voting for this criminal fool.

turning themselves into pretzels, trying to defend the indefensible. tomorrow the sky will be green and the grass is blue. and they will nod to agree while eating the sh!t sandwich he made them for lunch.

Funny how Trumpsters whine when the show is on the other foot.

Because conspiracy theorists are telling them to.

For four years, the White House just did whatever they wanted, didn't bother with rules or norms, with following rules, basically seat-of-the-pantsed the entire administration. But at the end of the day, they were still public servants. And government documents are not to be trifled with.

It’s like The Firm. It’s not sexy, but it’s got teeth.

Yes (although if he cares for the country rather than himself he won't). But he can't do it after he's out of office. And if he declassified the docs before leaving office but didn't follow any procedures at all for declassifying, even by just writing it down on a sheet of paper and sticking that somewhere where someone will find it, then it didn't happen.

And it didn't happen. The docs weren't declassed, formally or informally.

So now they agree with Peter Strzok?

I seriously doubt that. People who spout GOP talking points will say this because it’s a GOP talking point, but everyone else finds it 100% believable that the FBI had probable cause for a search warrant.

There is a formal process for declassification. It isn’t getting aides to bring classified documents from the Oval Office to the private residence in the WH so they can be removed by a commercial moving company in cardboard boxes. There is a further issue with the “take care” clause of the Constitution. An attempt to declassify a document as part of an illegal scheme is not an inherent authority of a president. He is not a king.

It’s not a matter of believability. The FBI had to make a showing of PC to a federal magistrate by sworn oath. And you better damn well understand that the weight of evidence for such a showing had to be monumental, including that the documents were known to be there days if not hours before.

What earthly reason could there be for Trump to remove these boxes from the WH? And why didn’t anyone think to stop him?

Actually, it's Trump supporters like you who made them kosher. But it's too late to start squealing now when it's turned around and used against your idols.

This is funny since Biden has his own history of name-calling.

"Damn liar"
"Lyin' dog face pony $oldier"
"Full of $hit"
"$tupid $on of a b**ch."
"Clown"

And, these names were directed not at politicians... but at voters and the media.

Who turned and would know where those documents are hidden?

Did Don Jr or Ivanka secretly cut a deal?

Was it Jared?

I was just coming on to ask, as just saw it reported. Definitely not Ivanka. She's evil. But, I'm sure heads are rolling in Trumplandia.

Scary too, that one person, who may or may not have clearance had access.
