OK, for probably the first and last time in my life, I am invited to a real-life, legit, movie premiere. However, I have no idea what appropriate attire is. It's here in DC and it's on a Thursday evening, which I think probably greatly influences the answer. I'm quite sure a floor-length ballgown would be highly inappropriate, but should I just wear fancy work clothes? A cocktail dress? I'm really befuddled! |
I think you should wear your work clothes. I say that based on that almost every single time I've gotten super dressed up for a weeknight event in DC, I've ended up feeling silly. Seems like most people just come right from work. |
I don't know if it's different in DC but in LA I wear something I'd wear on a nice date night. |
Blah screw boring D.C. People. Wear a cute dress and maybe a fun blazer. |
Is the premiere" I, Tonya?" |
No, The Post. So there will be real Hollywood stars there, but it is in fact a movie about a newspaper. |
But I just looked up I, Tonya, and it looks amazing! |
Work clothes or “Sunday best” (depending on your culture). |
Ohh I think that movie will be good about Ben Bradlee and Katherine Graham back when the Washington post was a super powerhouse. I'd wear a dress and boots - like dinner out somewhere nice. By the way. I've been to these types of events. You will be lucky if you get a glimpse of the stars. Have fun |
Work clothes for when you're doing a presentation in front of the hottest guy in the office. |
Wear anything. I used to go to film premieres in London a lot because of the industry I worked in. When I turned up in cargo pants and a fleece I had the most attention ever, because everyone thought I was a big insider who didn't give a sh*t. But I was just a small insider, who didn't give a sh*t. |
What time does it start? That will determine how I answer. |
Dress like Deep Throat and rock a sexy trench coat ![]() |
If it is Star Wars you either wear a Princess Leia inspired white dress complete with donut hair or if you are feeling daring you dress like Queen Amadala with make up. ![]() |
I used to plan DC screenings for big movies and I can tell you that everyone just wears their work clothes. Every once in awhile someone would show up all dressed up and they would look very out of place. So I recommend wearing a nice version of what you wear to work -- or if you work in a casual office, a nice day dress and heels. |
